Qatar Airways is reportedly in the final stages of placing a major order for dozens of planes from Boeing.?
The deal will see the Doha-based carrier order 100 widebody jets from Boeing, with an option to order up to 100 more, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday.
Qatar Airways already has a couple widebody orders with Boeing already in the works. In 2024, it expanded a standing order for Boeing 777x planes to include 20 additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft, which would be outfitted with the airline¡¯s next generation business class. It has a total of 94 of the 777x aircraft on order, as well as 12 Dreamliner 787 jets.
Boeing¡¯s best-selling passenger widebody is its 787 Dreamliner plane, which it introduced in 2011. Today, there are more than 1,175 Dreamliners flying, and the aircraft just surpassed an important milestone of flying 1 billion passengers worldwide on more than 5 million flights, Boeing said in an April 30 release.
Qatar is still putting the ¡°finishing touches¡± on the deal, according to Bloomberg, and the purchase agreement is expected to be officially announced during President Donald Trump¡¯s upcoming visit to the Middle East region. During the tour, Trump is expected to visit Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
The news of Qatar Airways' would be a positive turn for Boeing, who had at least two of its newly built planes returned by China at the end of April as trade tensions escalated between China and the United States.
