Doha-based carrier Qatar Airways is growing its presence at one the largest airports in the United States.

The Gulf carrier just announced it will open its first airport lounge in the U.S. at the new Terminal One being built at New York¡¯s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

The new 15,000-square-foot space will debut in 2026 and feature amenities like relaxation zones, VIP check-in areas, prayer rooms, and premium dining options. Travelers flying in Qatar¡¯s business class will receive access to the new facility.?

Previously, Qatar Airways passengers flying business class out of JFK could access lounges through the carrier¡¯s Oneworld partner, American Airlines. Qatar is known for its lavish lounges that offer conveniences like shower suites, reclining nap chairs, gourmet food and beverages, and work spaces around the globe.

¡°Our new state-of-the-art lounge will provide an enhanced experience at each touchpoint and complement our industry-leading Business Class travel experience,¡± Qatar Airways Group CEO Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer said. ¡°From dedicated airport transfers to VIP check-in to the finest of retail and dining options, premium passengers will be offered the World¡¯s Best service at New Terminal One.¡±

Coinciding with the opening of the lounge, Qatar will also move its JFK operations to the new Terminal One building when it opens next year, making it easy for lounge guests to quickly access their gates.?

Together, the two moves reflect the ¡°strategic importance¡± of JFK in the carrier¡¯s overall global operations, according to the airline. ¡°Our move demonstrates the evolution of Qatar Airways¡¯ long-standing commitment to connecting global travellers to New York and expanding our services in the destination integral to our network in the US,¡± said Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer. The airline has served JFK since 2008 and has a total of 11 U.S. destinations on its route map.

Aside from Qatar Airways¡¯ announcement, anticipation has been growing ahead of JFK¡¯s Terminal One opening, which is scheduled to begin in 2026 with the launch of the first 14 gates. The new building is expected to be ultra-spacious with plenty of light and intuitive, modern design.

Terminal One is slated to be completed by 2030, with 23 gates and a sweeping 2.6 million square feet¡ªthe size of both of New York-LaGuardia¡¯s terminals combined. The new facility is one component of the $19 billion overhaul of JFK, which includes two brand new terminal buildings, an additional two revamped and expanded terminals, and an all-new ground transportation center.
