The TSA capped off an incredibly busy summer 2025 with record-setting passenger numbers over Labor Day Weekend.?
From Friday to Monday over the holiday weekend, TSA screened a staggering 10.4 million individuals at checkpoints around the country.
Friday, August 29, was one of the busiest days in the agency¡¯s history, with a total of 2,971,217 passengers screened. That¡¯s the highest number ever before a Labor Day Weekend, according to the TSA.?
Passenger numbers for the entire long weekend were 3.3% higher than in 2024.?
The TSA has seen historic numbers of travelers throughout the entire summer. The agency has seen eight of its 10 busiest days ever since May 23. Its busiest day ever in its 24-year history came earlier this summer, when it screened 3,097,633 passengers on June 22, 2025.
And there doesn¡¯t seem to be any signs of flier numbers slowing down: officials say the TSA is currently on track to break its all-time annual passenger volume record by the end of the year.
¡°As air travel continues to reach record high trajectories, TSA is fully prepared to meet the growing demand by maintaining a close partnership with our aviation industry partners,¡± said TSA Acting Deputy Administrator Adam Stahl.?
To keep up with swelling crowds of fliers, the TSA has made several notable policy changes this year to help streamline operations, with Stahl noting it ¡°was a summer of remarkable change at TSA.¡±
Policy shifts included nixing the shoes-off policy in the regular security line, creating a new TSA PreCheck lane specifically for family travelers, and introducing new automatic e-gates in collaboration with Clear.
