American Airlines has hit a major milestone in the expansion of its fleet.?

The Dallas-based carrier has received its 1,000th mainline aircraft. The new plane is a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner outfitted with the airline¡¯s new Flagship Suites business class and was delivered to the carrier on August 29.?

American has been expanding its 787-9 fleet this year, receiving eight of the planes since April. It has 30 more of the aircraft on order, all of which will also feature the Flagship Suites product.?

As the carrier continues to receive more of the 787-9 planes, it also means more routes will be upgraded with Flagship Suites business class. American says that it plans to deploy its 787-9 featuring the suites to its route from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to London Heathrow (LHR) in November.?

Then over the next several months, the airline will add the suite-equipped Dreamliners on additional routes from DFW, including to Auckland, New Zealand (AKL); Brisbane, Australia (BNE); and Buenos Aires (EZE). American will also launch the premium planes on its flights from Philadelphia (PHL) to Zurich (ZRH)

The carrier currently operates its 787-9 planes on its routes from Chicago O¡¯Hare (ORD) to London Heathrow (LHR) and Los Angeles (LAX), as well as from Philadelphia (PHL) to London (LHR).

The business class suites first launched in May 2025, and have so far been popular with fliers for their features like sliding privacy doors and comfortable lie-flat seats with direct access to the aisle. Passengers in the upgraded business class also get refreshed amenities, including duvets and bedding, slippers, and designer amenity kits.

The new fleet milestone comes as the airline prepares to celebrate its centennial anniversary in 2026.

¡°We are excited to grow our fleet, adding even more aircraft that offer customers a premium travel experience,¡± said Heather Garboden, American¡¯s chief customer officer. ¡°Looking forward to our next 100 years, we are focused on elevating and reimagining the onboard cabin experience along with every aspect of the customer travel journey.¡±
