Qatar Airways¡¯ fleet is growing in a major way.
The Doha-based carrier made history on Wednesday as it placed the largest order of widebody planes ever at Boeing.
Under the record-breaking new agreement, Qatar is purchasing 130 Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes and 30 Boeing 777-9 planes. The latter aircraft is a brand new jet for Boeing whose rollout has faced years of delays.
It's now set to debut in 2026, and when it does, it will be the world¡¯s largest twin-engine airplane.?
The purchase agreement also includes options for up to 50 additional 787 and 777X planes. The official signing of the order took place during President Trump¡¯s visit to the country, and he was present at the ceremony, along with Boeing¡¯s CEO Kelly Ortberg and the CEO of Qatar Airways Group Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.?
The order is also the largest-ever fleet purchase in Qatar Airways¡¯ history, and once the planes are delivered, the airline will be the largest operator of 787 Dreamliners in the Middle East. Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer called the order a ¡°critical next step for Qatar Airways on our path as we invest in the cleanest, youngest and most efficient fleet in global aviation."
The airline¡¯s fleet already consists of 150 Boeing planes, which are currently a mix of 777s and 787s.
