Flying through one of the busiest airports in the U.S. is about to get a little more relaxing, as American Airlines says it¡¯s planning to nearly double its lounge space at Miami International Airport (MIA).?
The Dallas-based airline said it will soon begin building a brand new Flagship Lounge in Miami and expand the footprint of its current Admirals Club lounges at the Florida hub. As part of the growth plan, American will convert its current Miami Flagship Lounge and Admirals Club at gate D30 into an expanded Admirals Club, in addition to the existing Admirals club at gate D15.?
Admirals Clubs can be accessed by travelers who have an annual lounge membership, hold the Citi AAdvantage Executive credit card, or have elite status with Oneworld. Day passes can also be purchased for $79.
The airline will also build an all new Flagship Lounge at Miami airport. Although the plans are underway, American will release the exact opening dates and construction details at a later date.?
Flagship lounges are known for top-tier amenities like a Champagne greeting, spa-like shower suites, and fine dining featuring local ingredients. The premium spaces are open to fliers with AAdvantage Platinum status or higher, Oneworld Sapphire or Emerald members on a qualifying Flagship international itinerary, or travelers who purchase a day pass for $150.
¡°Miami is our international gateway, where we serve more than 30 million customers annually ¡ª and growing ¡ª with more than 400 peak daily flights to 160+ destinations,¡± said Juan Carlos Liscano, American¡¯s Vice President of MIA operations. ¡°The lounge experience plays a key role in enhancing that travel journey, offering a quiet and comfortable respite from the busy terminal, which is why we are so eager to give our Miami customers ¡ª including those connecting through our hub ¡ª new and improved spaces to relax, work and play.¡±
American has been busy expanding its lounge network at its other important hubs. Earlier this summer, it opened a brand new Flagship Lounge location at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) that measures 25,000 square feet.
