Aurora Expeditions is now a B Corp, a hard-to-achieve designation that requires businesses to meet rigorous social, environmental and governance standards.
The cruise line started the process in 2021 and became certified this month. The years-long endeavor required a ¡°huge amount of time and effort,¡± per the company.?
¡°Certification was a means of formalising a range of initiatives, processes and values we already had in place,¡± according to the cruise line.
B Lab, the nonprofit organization that certifies businesses as B Corps, conducted a comprehensive assessment of the cruise line¡¯s performance in five areas: governance, workers, community, customers and environment. Businesses must achieve a score of 80 or higher to be considered for certification, and Aurora Expeditions scored 87.5.?
Businesses must recertify every three years.
According to Aurora Expeditions, it¡¯s now one of just two B Corp tour operators in Antarctica and the Arctic¡ªthe other is Intrepid Travel. More broadly, more than 8,000 businesses worldwide have become B Corps.
¡°Our B Corp journey reflects our deep commitment to our purpose¡ªto create ambassadors for the Planet,¡± according to Aurora Expeditions. ¡°It redefines what successful expedition tourism can look like when a business is a force for good.¡±
