      Party Like It's 2020

      1/26
There are only three weeks left in 2019 and travelers are quickly running out of time to plan their last trip of the year and the entire decade for that matter. WalletHub recently compared the 100 biggest U.S. cities based on 28 key indicators of a memorable New Year's Eve celebration across three key categories-entertainment and food; costs and safety and accessibility-to determine the best places in America to ring in 2020. Here are the top 25.

      25. Portland, Oregon

      2/26
With chilly temperatures and the possibility for snow, the Pacific Northwest is the perfect place for a New Year's Eve celebration this winter. Portland ranks fifth when it comes to offering the most nightlife options per capita and 17th for entertainment and food, which considers important factors such as restaurants and music venues per capita, New Year's Eve popularity, the legality of fireworks and general fun.

      24. Cincinnati, Ohio

      3/26
While Cincinnati doesn't stand out in any one area that WalletHub looked at, it's consistent across all three categories WalletHub examined, ranking 30th for entertainment and food, 39th for costs and 23rd for safety and accessibility.

      23. Austin, Texas

      4/26
Unsurprisingly, entertainment and food is Austin's top-performing category. After all, the Texas capital is also known as both the Live Music Capital of the World and a haven for foodies, especially those seeking out world-class barbecue. You can bet Austin's world famous Sixth Street entertainment district will be jumping this New Year's Eve.

      22. Scottsdale, Arizona

      5/26
If it's affordability, safety and accessibility you're after this New Year's Eve, consider an underrated destination like Scottsdale, which ranks a respectable 23rd for costs and fifth for safety and accessibility. Visitors don't have to sacrifice on fun either as the city will play host to a number of holiday parties, dinners, bar crawls and other festivities.

      21. Nashville, Tennessee

      6/26
The Music City ranks an impressive 15th for entertainment and food. Out-of-towners descending on Nashville this December will likely head to Broadway downtown along the riverfront to ring in the new year from one of the area's many rooftop bars and hangouts.

      20. Louisville, Kentucky

      7/26
Louisville is a budget-friendly New Year's Eve destination featuring plenty of action, including the city's biggest end-of-the-year party at Fourth Street Live!, where visitors can enjoy live music, confetti cannons and Louisville's only ball drop featuring thousands of balloons.

      19. Minneapolis, Minnesota

      8/26
You can't go wrong celebrating 2020's arrival in the Twin Cities region this winter as Minneapolis checks in at 19th on WalletHub's list, up 11 spots from last year. Of cities in the top 25, only Scottsdale and San Diego fare better in terms of safety and accessibility in 2019.

      18. Birmingham, Alabama

      9/26
Birmingham is the most wallet-friendly New Year's Eve destination in the country this year and ranks second-best nationwide in terms of the lowest price of a three-star hotel room on December 31, trailing only Oklahoma City.

      17. Seattle, Washington

      10/26
With marquee events such as the 19th Annual INDULGENCE New Year's Eve Bash at the Museum of Pop Culture and New Year's Eve Fireworks at The Space Needle, it should come as no surprise that Seattle ranks 12th among the nation's largest cities when it comes to entertainment on December 31.

      16. Buffalo, New York

      11/26
Buffalo is up a whopping 10 spots from 2018, ranking no worse than 28th in either of the three categories WalletHub looked at, including 22nd for entertainment and food. New York's second-largest city also boasts the second-lowest average price per New Year's Eve party ticket so visitors can expect their dollars to go further.

      15. Dallas, Texas

      12/26
Dallas remains 16th for New Year's Eve entertainment and food but jumped five spots better for costs this year, rising to 25th in 2019. Still, it's not even the top-rated destination for ringing in 2020 in the state of Texas.

      14. New Orleans, Louisiana

      13/26
The Big Easy certainly knows how to put on a party and the French Quarter, especially tourist-friendly spots like Bourbon Street will be the place to be this New Year's Eve as endless food, drinks, music and fun will ensure a good time is had by all.

      13. San Antonio, Texas

      14/26
Family- and budget-friendly San Antonio is one of the more surprising entries in WalletHub's top 25 this year, ranking 18th for entertainment and food, 22nd for costs and 13th overall.

      12. Washington, DC

      15/26
It's no secret that the nation's capital will be rocking this New Year's Eve. However, Washington, D.C. ranks a dismal 91st for costs, meaning that holiday revelers won't be able to stretch their budget as far compared to some other cities in the top 25.

      11. Chicago, Illinois

      16/26
Chicago won't be lacking in delicious food and drinks or winter fun this New Year's Eve and with two major airports to choose from, it's among the more accessible cities to celebrate in this year.

      10. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

      17/26
If New Year's Eve in D.C. isn't for you, head up I-95 to Philadelphia, which ranks similarly well in terms of entertainment and food but significantly better when it comes to December 31 expenses.

      9. Miami, Florida

      18/26
Holiday travelers in search of unrivaled nightlife and sunshine need not look any further than Miami, one of the country's top party destinations. However, ringing in the new year in South Florida could come with a hefty price tag as Miami ranks 95th for costs.

      8. San Francisco, California

      19/26
The Bay Area is another no-brainer for party-seekers this New Year's Eve as it ranks second for most restaurants per capita, fourth for most luxury shops and gourmet food stores per capita and is tied for first for most nightlife options per capita.

      7. Orlando, Florida

      20/26
Undoubtedly one of the most family-friendly New Year's Eve destinations, Orlando is also relatively cost-friendly, ranking 48th among the 100 largest cities in terms of costs. The Theme Park Capital of the World also ranks fourth for most nightlife options per capita and fifth for most restaurants per capita.

      6. Atlanta, Georgia

      21/26
Staying in the South, Atlanta fell three spots in 2019, ranking sixth overall but fifth for New Year's Eve entertainment and food. Atlanta still trails Orlando in terms of costs but has it beat in terms of safety and accessibility this time of year.

      5. Los Angeles, California

      22/26
Los Angeles is also down three spots this year to fifth but that doesn't mean the City of Angels is any less worthy of receiving a bulk of New Year's Eve visitors as it will once again keep the music cranking and drinks flowing well into the AM on January 1. Only two cities fare better in terms of entertainment and food.

      4. San Diego, California

      23/26
Elsewhere in Southern California, San Diego ranks 12th for safety and accessibility, which is the best mark of any city in the top 10 and the second-best among cities in WalletHub's top 25. This key category takes into account things like walkability, share of delayed flights, pedestrian fatality rate and forecasted precipitation for December 31, among other factors.

      3. Las Vegas, Nevada

      24/26
Las Vegas, which is up two spots from 2018, is tied with New York City and San Francisco in terms of most nightlife options per capita and ranks fourth nationwide for most restaurants per capita, making it an easy choice for New Year's Eve revelry this year.

      2. Denver, Colorado

      25/26
Denver is one of the big winners this year, climbing four spots from last year into second overall in 2019. The Mile High City ranks 36th among the 100 cities WalletHub analyzed in terms of costs, which is by far the best of any destination in the top 10. Denver also ranks eighth for entertainment and food due to an array of concerts, family-friendly events and eye-popping firework displays.

      1. New York, New York

      26/26
The Big Apple remains the top New Year's Eve destination despite ranking dead last for costs again in 2019. As has been the case, no city tops NYC when it comes to entertainment and food. In addition to the iconic festivities at Times Square, New York boasts the most nightlife options, restaurants, luxury shops and gourmet food stores per capita.
