      Are We Having Fun Yet?

      1/21
Looking for a good time? Fortunately, America isn't short on fun-filled destinations. To find out where travelers are having the most fun in 2019, WalletHub has once again compared more than 180 U.S. cities based on 66 key metrics-including fitness centers per capita, movie costs and average open hours of breweries-across three major categories: Entertainment and recreation; nightlife and parties and costs. Here are the 20 cities that fared the best.

      20. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

      2/21
Philadelphia dropped three spots from 17th in 2018 to 20th in 2019, ranking 22nd nationally for entertainment and recreation and 19th for nightlife and parties. In terms of cost, Philly fares about average, coming in at 101st out of 182 cities.

      19. Houston, Texas

      3/21
Few other U.S. cities are as consistent as Houston when it comes to offering stellar nightlife experience at a great value. It doesn't rank worse than 38th in either of the three key categories WalletHub examined.

      18. St Louis, Missouri

      4/21
Only one other city in the top 20 beats out St. Louis when it comes to cost. Plus, this overlooked Midwest metropolis ranks a surprising 16th for nightlife and parties so you're sure to make some new friends before your time is up.

      17. Seattle, Washington

      5/21
Costs prevent Seattle from climbing into WalletHub's top 15 as the Emerald City ranks eighth-worst in the all-important category (Seattle ranks second-worst for average beer price). Nonetheless, there aren't many cities with more fun offerings as Seattle ranks 10th for entertainment and recreation and 14th for nightlife and parties.

      16. Tampa, Florida

      6/21
Tampa is on the rise, climbing from 20th in WalletHub's rankings last year to 16th in 2019. The Gulf Coast destination ranks 12th for entertainment and recreation and only 70th for cost. Therefore, budget-conscious fun-seekers also in search of warmth and sunshine can't go wrong.

      15. Washington, DC

      7/21
The nation's capital stayed put in 15th place this year. Washington, D.C. ranks fifth for most accessible bars but remains held back by costs, where it comes in 174th out of 182 cities.

      14. Denver, Colorado

      8/21
Denver is down three spots this year, falling from 11th to 14th on WalletHub's list of the most fun U.S. cities. The Mile High City comfortably beats out Washington, D.C. in terms of costs but doesn't fare any better than 13th for entertainment and recreation and nightlife and parties.

      13. Honolulu, Hawaii

      9/21
Honolulu is yet another city that's seemingly limitless fun is only hindered by its cost. The capital of Hawaii ranks sixth overall for entertainment and recreation but 158th in terms of costs, leading it to drop one spot from 2018.

      12. New Orleans, Louisiana

      10/21
The Big Easy is down three spots in 2019 but is still firmly in the top 15. New Orleans ranks ninth in the nation for nightlife and parties but you could argue it's deserving of being even higher given the unparalleled draw of Bourbon Street.

      11. Austin, Texas

      11/21
While New Orleans is down three spots this year, Austin is up three spots to 11th overall. The Live Music Capital of the World is one of the best American cities for nightlife and parties and is also one of the best for costs, ranking 69th.

      10. Los Angeles, California

      12/21
L.A. is also up three spots this year, cracking the top 10 in part due to its plethora of fitness centers and dance clubs. That's not all that the City of Angels has going for it though. There are more than one unique ways to experience this one-of-a-kind destination.

      9. San Diego, California

      13/21
Elsewhere in Southern California, sunny San Diego ranks an incredible third for entertainment and recreation, trailing only New York City and Orlando in the key category. Interestingly, it ranks the worst among the top 10 cities for nightlife and parties.

      8. Portland, Oregon

      14/21
Much like Austin, Portland's weirdness is a big part of what makes it so fun to experience. Stumptown is also a coveted spot among beer drinkers, ranking third in the country in terms of offering the most accessible bars.

      7. San Francisco, California

      15/21
Portland and San Francisco trade spots this year with the Bay Area being slightly more fun, according to WalletHub. San Francisco is tied for the most festivals, fitness centers and dance clubs per capita and ranks second for most restaurants per capita.

      6. Atlanta, Georgia

      16/21
Atlanta is down two spots from 2018, checking in at sixth on WalletHub's list. Still, only three other cities fare better in terms of most dance clubs per capita so visitors to the South will have plenty of chances to cut a rug.

      5. Chicago, Illinois

      17/21
Chicago surpasses Atlanta for fun in 2019, based on WalletHub's research. The Windy City isn't necessarily budget-friendly but it's tied for the most park playgrounds per capita and ranks inside the top seven for both entertainment and recreation and nightlife and parties.

      4. Miami, Florida

      18/21
Miami is also up one spot from fifth in 2018 to fourth in 2019. Foodies will be happy to know that the South Florida hotspot ranks third for most restaurants per capita while active travelers will love the fact Miami is tied for first in terms of most fitness centers per capita.

      3. New York, New York

      19/21
New York City once again ranks dead-last in for costs. Nonetheless, travelers with a flexible budget can't go wrong when it comes to finding fun things to do from sun up to sundown. The Big Apple ranks first for entertainment and recreation and second for nightlife and parties.

      2. Orlando, Florida

      20/21
If you're looking for the most fun at the best cost, Orlando is the place. According to WalletHub's research, the theme park mecca ranks second for entertainment and recreation, third for nightlife and parties and 17th out of 182 cities for costs.

      1. Las Vegas, Nevada

      21/21
The Entertainment Capital of the World claims the coveted top spot yet again in 2019. Unsurprisingly, Las Vegas ranks number one for nightlife and parties and fifth for entertainment and recreation. Sin City is the only destination WalletHub analyzed that ranks inside of the top five for most festivals, restaurants and dance clubs per capita.
