A Carnival Cruise Line ship sailing near the Mexican Riviera
experienced a severe storm that caused the ship to lean heavily to one side.
According to USA
Today, Carnival Panorama was on an eight-day cruise from Los Angeles to
Mexico when the ship ¡°encountered wind and rain that led to a listing,¡± which
is a nautical term for a ship leaning to one side.
The incident took place on August 20, with passengers
onboard the vessel reporting that dishes in the dining
room were smashed, items from a store were thrown from the shelves, and
water was seen ¡°spilling from an elevator.¡±

Carnival spokesperson Matt Lupoli told USA Today:
¡°The incident was over quickly and as the captain maneuvered
to calmer seas, crew members quickly turned their attention to assisting guests
and clean up."
¡°A small number of guests were checked by our medical team
on board,¡± Lupoli continued. ¡°There were no serious injuries and no significant
impact to the ship¡¯s systems and features. The ship's itinerary was not
affected and it's now sailing its next voyage.¡±
The weather-induced listing may be rare, but it happens
occasionally, with the captains and crew members trained to steady the ships
and move them to safter waters. In 2023, Carnival Sunshine experienced a similar
listing issue.
