Any speculation about Spirit Airlines filing for bankruptcy in the
wake of the blocked merger with JetBlue Airways is definitely premature.
Not when you plan
to launch new routes. Nine of them, in fact, for this summer.
That doesnt sound like an airline flirting with bankruptcy.
The low-cost
carrier will introduce nine
nonstop services out of Boston; Portland, Oregon; Columbus, Ohio; and Salt Lake
City. Also, on May
8, the airline will begin flying between Portland and Chicago six times a week to
become the first budget airline to service that route.
The
other new routes will be offered once daily. They are:
- Boston
to/from Detroit and Pittsburgh
- Portland
to/from Burbank and San Diego
- Columbus
to/from Newark and Boston
- And Salt
Lake City to/from San Diego and Fort Lauderdale
The
flight from Salt Lake City to Fort Lauderdale is fortuitous, as it will start
as soon as JetBlue puts a cease to that route.
Travelers will also be able to?fly to San Juan?from Houston and New Orleans, along with
a list of new domestic flights beginning in May and June.
