A wave of cancellations on flights to Israel began over the weekend after a missile fired by Yemen¡¯s Houthi rebels landed near Tel Aviv¡¯s Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday, according to Reuters.?
Tel Aviv¡¯s airport is the main air transport hub in the nation and handles the majority of international flights. Several airlines in the United States and Europe are halting flights into Tel Aviv for several days. Here¡¯s a look at how airlines are handling the current safety situation.
Delta Air Lines
On Sunday, Delta canceled its daily flight from New York JFK to Tel Aviv, as well as the return flight that was due to operate on Monday May 5, Reuters reports. The carrier also issued a travel waiver that allows passengers scheduled to fly to Tel Aviv through May 25 to change their travel dates up to June 15 for free.
United
After pausing its twice-daily flights between Newark and Tel Aviv while it ¡°monitors the situation,¡± United issued a travel waiver that allows fliers booked on flights to Israel through May 11 to change their dates for travel through May 31 with no change fees or fare differences. Passengers can also change their destination airport to Athens.?
Lufthansa Group
All carriers in the Lufthansa Group, including Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss, and Brussels airlines, have paused flights to Tel Aviv through May 11, according to a statement on the company¡¯s website.
ITA?
Italy¡¯s ITA Airways paused all flights from Rome to Tel Aviv until Wednesday May 7, according to Reuters.
Wizz Air
European budget carrier Wizz Air is halting its flight to Tel Aviv until the morning of Thursday May 8, according to the Times of Israel.
