Cloud-based enterprise event management company Cvent recently analyzed meeting and event booking activity through its supplier network to determine the top meeting destinations across the U.S. While major cities are prevalent in the top 30, there are quite a few surprises that could ultimately inspire meeting and event planners in the future.

Baltimore offers more than 130 special event venues and as many as 8,000 overnight rooms within one mile of its convention center. Plus, the city is within a reasonable distance of other marquee destinations, including Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York.

Recent multi-billion dollar investment has helped increase St. Louis' appeal to meeting and event planners from across the country. The city's Convention Quarter is home to a slew of major hotel brands featuring thousands of new and improved guestrooms.

The climate-controlled skyways that connect Minneapolis' convention center-which boasts 475,000 square feet of exhibit space-to nearby hotels and its proximity to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport help set the destination apart from others in the Midwest.

This underrated meeting destination sits between Dallas and Fort Worth and is highlighted by the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, which possesses 1,500-plus rooms and suites, 400,000 square feet of convention space and family-friendly amenities on site, including a 10-acre pool complex.

Philadelphia's expansive Pennsylvania Convention Center occupies as many as 10 city blocks and has the distinction of being the largest public construction project in the state. What's more, the city combines historic charm with convenience in the form of nearly 17,000 hotel rooms and 235 special event venues.

The Washington State Convention Center in downtown Seattle has made the Emerald City a popular meet-up spot for business travelers. The versatile venue offers more than five dozen meeting rooms that can be combined to accommodate groups ranging from 20 to 3,500 people.

Altogether, Boston boasts more than 2 million square feet of convention center space. The Boston Convention & Exhibit Center is the largest meeting facility in New England and has up to 10 different configurations to meet the needs of various events across all industries.

Located just east of Phoenix, the desert city of Scottsdale is renowned for its luxury hotels and resorts as well as its state-of-the-art meeting spaces and venues. The Palomino Conference Center inside the five-star Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is an excellent starting point for meeting and event planners.

Los Angeles is certainly no stranger to hosting marquee events and there's no question it has the variety of venues to ensure every meeting goes smoothly. The Los Angeles Convention Center is among the largest in the country and within walking distance of 5,000-plus hotel rooms.
