Saga has officially welcomed its newest ship, Spirit of the Moselle, to its fleet.
The company hosted a christening ceremony for the new river cruise vessel in Amsterdam, with Louise Robinson¡ªeditorial director of Saga Magazine¡ªserving as godmother. She performed the traditional act of smashing a bottle of Champagne against Spirit of the Moselle¡¯s hull.
¡°What an unforgettable day in Amsterdam,¡± says Robinson. ¡°I was so thrilled by the whole thing I thought might implode along with the champagne bottle, which, to my enormous relief, smashed on my command.¡±
After the ceremony, the 172-guest ship set sail on its inaugural voyage, an 8-day cruise through the Netherlands and Germany. The vessel has four passenger decks featuring 92 cabins, a restaurant, a sun deck and a large lounge area.

Spirit of the Moselle¡¯s reception and lobby area is decorated with low-hanging lanterns and cascading bronze leaves. The interior design also features warm, rich tones and soft pastels, as well as modern furnishings.
¡°We have spent such a long time crafting every detail of Spirit of the Moselle, and I couldn¡¯t be more excited to finally see her set sail,¡± says Lorraine Friend, head of river hotel operations for Saga. ¡°The ship has really come to life, and she feels truly unique¡ªa modern, boutique river ship designed with our guests in mind.¡±?
