After monitoring ongoing violence and civil unrest in and around Haiti¡¯s capital of Port-au-Prince, Royal Caribbean has announced that it will suspend visits to its private beach/destination in Labadee, Haiti.
The leased land around Labadee allows Royal Caribbean guests to enjoy a variety of activities on five stretches of private beach nestled between the mountains and the sea. There is also a half-mile zip line, water slides, wave runners, private cabanas, and more. The resort area has its own private security force.
According to one Royal Caribbean blog, guests who have purchased upcoming excursions at Labadee were recently informed of the change to the ship itinerary to locations such as Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos.
¡°We have been monitoring the evolving situation in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and out of an abundance of caution, we're cancelling our visit to Labadee,¡± read the notice. ¡°We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause¡ªyour safety is our top priority. We appreciate your understanding.¡±
Some other upcoming cruises are substituting Falmouth, Jamaica; Nassau, Bahamas; Coco Cay; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; George Town, Grand Cayman; Cozumel, Mexico; or an extra sea day for the Labadee visits.
Royal Caribbean said that the visits are paused until at least May 2026, and will make a decision on future Labadee stops at some point before then.
