Travelers based on the West Coast will have a new flight option to visit the Land of Fire and Ice next summer.?
Alaska Airlines is launching a nonstop route from its hub at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to Reykjavik, Iceland. The carrier first announced the route in early August, but has just released more details about the upcoming service.?
The daily summer flights to Keflav¨ªk International Airport (KEF) will begin on May 28, 2026, and operate through mid-September. The airline also launched fares on the new route, and tickets are available to book now.
The airline will use its newly upgraded long-range Boeing 737-8 Max planes to operate the new Reykjavik route. The aircraft cabin interiors have been enhanced to ¡°create a more modern, more comfortable and more consistent onboard experience,¡± according to Alaska. Passengers can expect to see updated bulkheads, cabin dividers, new leather seats, carpets, device holders, and reserved overhead bin space for passengers in first class and premium class.?
The refreshed first class aboard the 737-8 Max will also offer four more seats, for a total of 16 spots in the cabin. The seats will also have more conveniently located power outlets and new USB-C power ports, too. At meal time, first class fliers will also be treated to a new tableware collection inspired by the Pacific Northwest, which begins rolling out on September 24 and features textured stoneware and brass-tone cutlery.?
In recent months, Alaska Airlines has been busy announcing new long-haul routes from Seattle to Europe, including new 2026 service from SEA to Rome and London. ¡°The addition of Reykjav¨ªk expands Alaska¡¯s global footprint, connecting our guests with even more of the world through the elevated service they know and love,¡± said Kirsten Amrine, Alaska¡¯s vice president of revenue management and network planning. ¡°We¡¯re excited to launch our new nonstop route next summer, bringing travelers closer to the natural magic of Iceland and providing a seamless gateway to Europe.¡±
From Reykjavik, Alaska Airlines passengers can use the airline¡¯s codeshare partner Icelandair to connect to other destinations throughout Europe. Under an enhanced agreement between the two airlines, passengers can book flights on both carriers using one itinerary. Passengers flying in Alaska¡¯s first class or travelers with gold, platinum, or titanium elite status with Alaska¡¯s Atmos Rewards loyalty program can also access Icelandair¡¯s lounge at KEF.
The new route launch is part of a larger strategy to make Seattle one of the airline¡¯s premier global hubs. Alaska plans to launch at least 12 international flights from SEA by 2030. In addition to announcing the routes to Iceland, London, and Rome, the carrier launched service to Tokyo Narita in May and will begin new service to Seoul Incheon on September 12, for a total of five new international routes departing SEA.?
That means travelers can likely look forward to the airline announcing at least seven more nonstop routes in the coming years to meet its goal of 12 international destinations operating from the hub.
