      2023 is on its way out, which means it¡¯s time to take stock of all that¡¯s come ¡ª and gone ¡ª?this year at Disney parks, resorts, and on Disney Cruise Line, and it has been quite the year. We finally said so long to the EARidescence of Walt Disney World¡¯s 50th anniversary celebration, trading it for the platinum and purple of Disney100. We also welcomed new shows, restaurants, and reimagined lands and attractions to Disney theme parks around the world, got exciting first looks at new adventures coming to the high seas, and bid an untimely farewell to the ultimate voyage to a galaxy far, far away. Here, our Disney year in review.

      Disneyland Resort¡¯s Disney100 Celebration Launched a Year of Global Celebrations

      Disney100, the Walt Disney Company¡¯s 100th anniversary celebration, kicked off at Disneyland Resort on January 27, 2023. The parks, character costumes, and even Disney Cast Member name tags got platinum makeovers to celebrate.

      ¡®Wondrous Journeys¡¯ Illuminated Disneyland Park

      "Wondrous Journeys," which debuted January 27, 2023 as part of the Disney100 celebration, wowed audiences with its moving tribute to Walt Disney Animation Studios. Featuring the catchy original song, "It's Wondrous," the show combined stunning projections, showcasing Disney¡¯s animation legacy, with fireworks and a fantastic soundtrack. The show went on hiatus to make way for Halloween followed by holiday-themed nighttime shows and will return for a limited time from?March 22 to April 14, with nightly fireworks.?

      ¡®World of Color ¡ª One¡¯ Debuted at Disney California Adventure Park

      "World of Color ¡ª One," a new iteration of Disney California Adventure¡¯s popular fountain spectacular, also debuted with the launch of Disneyland¡¯s Disney100 celebration. Using fountains, updated lighting effects, and crisp new projections, the show celebrates characters and stories from Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel films. The show also introduced an inspiring new song, "Start a Wave," by Cody Fry.

      Mickey & Minnie¡¯s Runaway Railway Opened at Disneyland, Followed by Reimagined Mickey¡¯s Toontown

      After an extensive reimagining, Mickey's Toontown reopened at Disneyland Park on March 19, 2023. Mickey & Minnie¡¯s Runaway Railway opened with the Disney100 celebration on January 27, ahead of the full land reveal. In addition to the new ride, the updated land introduced new features and welcoming spaces including CenTOONial Park, Goofy¡¯s How-To-Play Yard, and Donald¡¯s Duck Pond, new quick-service dining locations Caf¨¦ Daisy and Good Boy! Grocers, and reimagined ride, Chip ¡®n¡¯ Dale¡¯s GADGETcoaster.

      Magic Happens Parade Made a Triumphant Return

      "Magic Happens," Disneyland Park's parade that enjoyed only a very brief debut run before a pandemic-induced hiatus, returned on February 24, 2023. The parade, featuring a blend of contemporary Disney tunes and an original song by Todrick Hall, delighted Disney fans before entering another hiatus to make way for Disneyland¡¯s holiday parade. Magic Happens performances will resume on February 2, 2024.?

      Rogers: The Musical Debuts for a Limited Run at Disneyland Resort

      Avengers fans assembled at the Hyperion Theater at Disney California Adventure for a limited run of Rogers: The Musical. The 30-minute, one-act musical centers around Steve Rogers and his journey from World War II soldier to becoming Captain America. Fans of the show and those who missed it can still enjoy the 12-song original cast recording, which was released on streaming services.

      Reimagined Adventureland Treehouse Opens at Disneyland Park

      Adventureland Treehouse inspired by Walt Disney¡¯s Swiss Family Robinson opened on November 10, 2023, replacing Tarzan¡¯s Treehouse. The new version pays homage to the original Swiss Family Treehouse that first opened in 1962 at Disneyland Park, but introduces a new story about a new family. The whimsical walk-through experience is alive with sound and movement, packed with playful animatronic animals and captivating water features, and of course offers sweeping views of the park from the highest points.?

      Tiana¡¯s Palace Restaurant Opens at Disneyland Park

      The transformation of The French Market restaurant in Disneyland Park's New Orleans Square into Tiana's Palace, inspired by Disney's "The Princess and the Frog," was revealed on September 7, 2023. The new quick-service restaurant serves New Orleans-inspired cuisine with menu items like house-filled beignets, gumbo, Gulf shrimp and grits, and Joffrey¡¯s Coffee chicory cold brew.

      Disney Vacation Club Star View Station at Disneyland

      "Disney Vacation Club Star View Station ¨C a Member Lounge" opened in Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park, offering DVC members a place to relax and recharge. The lounge features murals by Disney Legends like Mary Blair and John Hench and props and artifacts on display. The space provides plenty of comfortable seating, Wi-Fi, charging stations and complimentary soft drinks.

      Disneyland After Dark Introduces First-Ever Pride Nite and Princess Nite

      Disneyland After Dark events continued in 2023 and debuted two new events, Pride Nite and Princess Nite. Pride Nite returns in 2024 along with Sweethearts Nite, Star Wars Nite, and all-new Disney Channel Nite.

      Disney Vacation Club Opened the Villas at Disneyland Hotel Opened

      On September 28, Disneyland Resort celebrated the grand opening of an eye-catching addition to the iconic Disneyland Hotel. The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, a colorful 12-story tower, honors the creative legacy of Walt Disney Animation Studios and some of its most beloved characters and stories throughout its 344 guest rooms, vibrant facade, and inviting public spaces, including a new dining and drinking spot, Palm Breeze Bar. The tower is the newest property from Disney Vacation Club (DVC), Disney¡¯s more flexible take on the traditional timeshare model, and offers accommodations ranging from studios for two to suites for 12.

      San Fransokyo Square Opens at Disney California Adventure Park

      San Fransokyo Square officially opened at Disney California Adventure park on August 31, 2023. Replacing the former Pacific Wharf area, the ¡°Big Hero 6¡±-inspired mashup of Tokyo and San Francisco features a 54-foot-tall San Fransokyo Gate Bridge, an East-meets-West marketplace with local eateries and businesses, and a space for guests to meet Hiro Hamada and Baymax.

      Great Maple Opens in the Soon-to-Be Pixar Place Hotel

      Ahead of the official reopening of the Paradise Pier Hotel as the Pixar Place Hotel on January 30, 2024, a new restaurant, Great Maple, opened off the hotel¡¯s lobby in November. The ¡°modern American eatery¡± serves upscale comfort food in a cheerful space with lots of alfresco seating.

      TRON Lightcycle / Run opens at Magic Kingdom

      Magic Kingdom is now home to the fastest rollercoaster in any Disney theme park in the world (along with TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland). TRON Lightcycle / Run officially opened on April 4. Inspired by the 1982 ¡°TRON¡± and 2010 ¡°TRON: Legacy,¡± the indoor/outdoor coaster brings bigger thrills ¡ª and some incredible nighttime lighting ¡ª to Tomorrowland.

      Happily Ever After Returns

      Magic Kingdom welcomed back the fan-favorite nighttime spectacular, ¡°Happily Ever After,¡± on April 3, 2023. Fans of ¡°Disney Enchantment,¡± the show that temporarily replaced Happily Ever After during Walt Disney World¡¯s 50th Anniversary Celebration, can still get their chance to see the show during Disney After Hours ticketed events at Magic Kingdom in 2024.

      Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana Opened at EPCOT

      "Journey of Water, Inspired By Moana" officially opened in EPCOT¡¯s World Nature Neighborhood on October 16. The all-ages walk-through attraction epitomizes EPCOT¡¯s edutainment approach, taking guests through an immersive exploration of the phases of the water cycle and inviting them to interact with water in innovative ways, from playing water harps and walking through a water ¡°curtain¡± without getting wet. Nearby, a dedicated Moana meet-and-greet also opened.

      Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Closed

      In a devastating blow to devoted fans and creatives who brought to life the most ambitious, immersive experience Disney has ever created, Disney announced the closure of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, the two-night experience at Walt Disney World. Following the closure announcement, all remaining voyages sold out in just a few hours. The award-winning experience received some of the highest guest satisfaction ratings in the history of Walt Disney World and gave rise to a devoted fan base that continues to pay tribute to the transformative experience.

      EPCOT¡¯s World Celebration Made Big Strides Towards Completion

      EPCOT¡¯s multi-year transformation continued with another major milestone reached on December 5, Walt Disney¡¯s Birthday, with the opening of World Celebration Gardens. The gardens bring more seating and green space to the park, and will provide a new location for festival activations and entertainment.

      ¡°Walt the Dreamer¡± Statue Unveiled

      Part of World Celebration Gardens, Dreamers Point overlooks the rest of the gardens and World Showcase beyond. Seated on a long bench is a new statue, ¡°Walt the Dreamer.¡± It ¡°represents Walt later in his life when he was dreaming up the overall Florida Project and the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow,¡± according to the Disney Parks Blog.

      EPCOT Debuts New Nighttime Spectacular

      ¡°Luminous the Symphony of Us,¡± EPCOT¡¯s new fireworks spectacular, also debuted December 5. Eschewing projections, Luminous uses music, fireworks, fountains, light and narration to take guests on a moving journey through the life stages and moments common to the human experience. The show introduces two original songs plus new arrangements of Disney hits.

      Figment Meet-and-Greet Opens

      ¡®Wish¡¯ Activations Debut at Disney Parks Around the World

      In celebration of the release of Disney¡¯s newest animated film, ¡°Wish,¡± Disney parks around the world debuted new experiences tied to the film and its characters. These included meet-and-greets with Asha, the film¡¯s heroine at EPCOT, Disneyland Park, and Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris, to nighttime shows on Spaceship Earth at EPCOT and ahead of World of Color ¡ª Season of Light at Disney California Adventure.

      The Hatbox Ghost Materialized at Walt Disney World¡¯s Haunted Mansion

      Walt Disney World's Haunted Mansion received a spooky addition on Nov. 30. The Hatbox Ghost, a popular character in Disneyland¡¯s version of the attraction, was added to the ride at Magic Kingdom.

      Disney Jollywood Nights Debuted at Disney¡¯s Hollywood Studios

      Disney Jollywood Nights, a new after-hours holiday event at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, debuted Nov. 11 and ran select nights through Dec. 20. The four-hour party features themed areas celebrating Hollywood from the 1920s to the present, with exclusive live entertainment, specialty food and drinks, photo opportunities, character meet-and-greets, and shorter wait times for attractions. Additionally, two new stage shows premiered, and the holiday nighttime show, Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!, returned exclusively for party guests.

      New Restaurants Opened Around Walt Disney World

      Several new restaurants opened at Walt Disney World resorts, parks and Disney Springs. The most highly anticipated was Roundup Rodeo BBQ in Toy Story Land at Disney¡¯s Hollywood Studios. The colorful, family friendly table-service restaurant serves a family-style menu of classic barbecue main courses and sides.?

      Additionally, Rosa Mexicano opened in March at the Walt Disney World Dolphin; Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya opened in August in EPCOT¡¯s Japan pavilion; and eet by Maneet Chauhan and Summer House on the Lake opened in December at Disney Springs.

      Disney Cruise Line Debuted Pixar Day at Sea and Australian Sailings

      Disney Cruise Line debuted Pixar Day at Sea on select sailings, with more to come in 2024. Meanwhile, the Disney Wonder began its first-ever voyages to Australia and New Zealand.

      Disney Cruise Line Revealed What¡¯s Onboard the Disney Treasure

      Disney Cruise Line¡¯s newest ship, the Disney Treasure, sets sail on its maiden voyage Dec. 21, 2024. In September, DCL shared an in-depth first look at what¡¯s coming to the new adventure-themed ship. Highlights include a new ¡°Coco¡± dining experience, bars and lounges themed to Disney parks attractions including Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansion, a ¡°Zootopia¡±-themed ice cream shop, and an EPCOT-inspired tower suite.

      Disney Cruise Line Revealed the Name of Its Seventh Ship

      In January, runDisney celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Marathon and the 10th anniversary of the Dopey Challenge. Runners were also thrilled by the January 2023 announcement of the return of runDisney races to Disneyland with the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend Jan. 11-14, 2024. runDisney later announced a second 2024 Disneyland race weekend, the Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend, September 5-8, 2024.

      Destination D23

      Destination D23 was held in Orlando in September, bringing together Disney¡¯s biggest fans for a weekend of announcements and special events. Some of the weekend¡¯s biggest announcements included a new show and songs coming to Country Bear Jamboree in 2024, a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge coming to Magic Kingdom, a planned reimagining of Test Track, and the evolution of D23 Expo into ¡°D23 ¡ª The Ultimate Disney Fan Event¡± in 2024.

      World of Frozen Opens at Hong Kong Disneyland

      World of Frozen opened at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort on Nov. 20, 2023. The land transports guests to Arendelle and includes attractions Summer Snow Day, Frozen Ever After, and Wandering Oaken¡¯s Sliding Sleighs.

      Zootopia Opens December 20, 2023 at Shanghai Disney Resort
