      Sounds of the City

      1/19
Few things capture the vibe of a destination quite like music. Experiencing a city through its sounds only enhances the adventure so be sure to bring your dancing shoes to these sweet-sounding destinations this summer.

      Nashville, Tennessee

      2/19
There are almost too many live music venues and acts in Nashville to see them all in one trip. Still, that's a good problem to have. Begin your journey through the Music City on Broadway, where you can stop into renowned spots like Robert's Western World and Tootsie's Orchid Lounge to see and hear future stars.

      Austin, Texas

      3/19
Austin, Texas is known as the Live Music Capital of the World and definitely gives Nashville a run for its money. Much like its world-class barbecue, music is everywhere in this city, from the streets and bars to dancehalls and festivals. The only bad news is travelers will have to wait until October for the Austin City Limits Music Festival.

      New Orleans, Louisiana

      4/19
The music will sound even better in New Orleans this summer as the Big Easy celebrates its tricentennial with a slew of genres ranging from blues and jazz to soul and funk. Follow the music to Bourbon and Frenchmen Streets and see where it takes you.

      Las Vegas, Nevada

      5/19
From the 20,000-seat T-Mobile Arena to the more intimate Chelsea theater at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Sin City combines phenomenal venues with unrivaled star power to produce one of the best live music experiences in the country.

      Chicago, Illinois

      6/19
If you love the sound and atmosphere of a music festival, head to Chicago this summer. The Windy City hosts countless festivals each year and there's something for every taste, including blues, electronic dance music, rock, reggae and hip-hop. Discover rising bands and underground acts at Pitchfork Music Festival in July and then catch the superstars at Lollapalooza in Grant Park in August.

      Los Angeles, California

      7/19
Visitors to Los Angeles this summer can experience their favorite artists under the stars at the legendary Hollywood Bowl or Greek Theatre or catch a rising act at the more intimate El Rey Theatre. The Echo is also worth a visit as its free Monday Night Music residency has helped launch the careers of bands like Foster the People, among others.

      New York, New York

      8/19
Start your summer rocking out to some of the biggest acts in music at the annual Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City's Randall's Island during the first weekend in June and keep the good vibes going through the final weekend in July at the star-studded Panorama Music Festival.

      Memphis, Tennessee

      9/19
Once you've paid your respects to the King of Rock and Roll at Graceland, head to Memphis' iconic Beale Street for some foot-tapping live entertainment. It's rare for a club here not to feature live music every night of the week so stroll until you find a sound you like.

      Atlanta, Georgia

      10/19
Atlanta's vibrant live music scene leaves no visitor behind, even if you've only got a couple of bucks to your name. That'll be enough to pay the cover charge and grab a drink at a handful of lively hangouts, including Smith's Olde Bar, Wild Bill's, Loca Luna and Kavarna.

      Asheville, North Carolina

      11/19
Asheville is perhaps best known for its incredible craft beer scene. Nonetheless, this Blue Ridge Mountain city is also winning over tourists with its music, from Friday night drum circles in Pritchard Park to refreshing rooftop sounds at Capella on 9 above the AC Hotel.

      Seattle, Washington

      12/19
The annual Bumbershoot music festival taking place every Labor Day Weekend at the 74-acre Seattle Center is America's longest-running outdoor music festival and the Emerald City is no stranger to stellar venues that host concerts year-round, including The Showbox and The Crocodile.

      Miami, Florida

      13/19
There are plenty of indoor music venues in Miami but the weather here is too good to miss out on. Check out the North Beach Bandshell to jam out with an ocean breeze or venture to 1306 for a drink and some tunes from the open-air garden courtyard.

      Detroit, Michigan

      14/19
The birthplace of Motown and Techno, Detroit's contributions to music and culture are undeniable. Today, the city remains home to an underrated music scene. The Fox Theatre and Fillmore Detroit are just a couple of iconic venues that date back nearly a century.

      Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

      15/19
The Steel City has helped produce superstars like Christina Aguilera and Wiz Khalifa so it's no stranger to talented musicians. What's more, Pittsburgh's Stage AE is just the second indoor/outdoor concert venue in America and Highmark Stadium is the perfect spot to experience live music along the Monongahela Riverfront in the summer.

      San Francisco, California

      16/19
Live music in the Bay Area doesn't get much better than Bottom of the Hill. The club hosts live music nightly in an intimate setting and even boasts outdoor seating. The Saloon should also be on visitors' list. San Francisco's oldest bar dates back to 1861 but is still keeping blues alive in North Beach.

      St Louis, Missouri

      17/19
Visitors to St. Louis will have hundreds of opportunities to take in live music in a given week and we're not just talking blues. The city's diverse music scene features everything from Irish and classical to rap and punk. Rock fans will want to head to Atomic Cowboy while blues lovers will feel right at home at Hammerstone's. Check out The Fabulous Fox for national touring acts.

      Sacramento, California

      18/19
Sacramento isn't Los Angeles or San Francisco but that's part of its charm. The California capital is the fastest-growing city for live music on Eventbrite and is a fantastic spot to catch indie acts. Plus, Sactown's Concerts in the Park festival takes over Cesar Chavez Plaza every Friday night from May through July and is free for all ages.

      Portland, Oregon

      19/19
The live music experience in Portland begins the moment you step off the plane at Portland International Airport and continues at the city's many bars and restaurants. Venues like Mississippi Studios and the Aladdin Theater are also excellent places to take in a live performance.
