Custom FIT tour operator Avanti Destinations has launched a new program that helps travel advisors identify accommodations, tours, and transfers with a commitment to sustainability, called the Avanti Footprint program.?
The new initiative has thus far checked over 400 products with a commitment to sustainability, which travel advisors can find by the three-leaf green logo on the Avanti Destinations website. Advisors who click the leaf logo can read about the suppliers' sustainability programs.?
Footprint-verified Avanti products include the Albus Hotel in Amsterdam, the first carbon-neutral hotel in Europe, boasting a Green Key certification and actively reducing food waste.?
Another verified experience is the Misminay Cultural Immersion Private Tour in Peru's Sacred Valley. The excursion takes travelers to a rural village where they'll listen to local folklore and music, join in the village's daily activities and eat a traditional Andean meal.?
Alison Atkinson, Avanti's Commercial Director, leads the Avanti Footprint program.?
"Our goal is to have 50% of our products on the path to sustainability," said Atkinson. "We started auditing all of our products late last year, sending suppliers a detailed survey, and then having our staff analyze and fact-check their responses. So far, we have verified that more than 400 products meet the criteria we set."
"I want to emphasize that we are not a certifying organization, and that we are not saying that a product is 100% sustainable," Atkinson continued. "But we want to recognize those suppliers who are rethinking how they do business and prioritizing sustainability, not just stating that their product is green, but actually doing something substantive about it."
