The Walt
Disney World Resort in Orlando,
Florida has just announced that one of its fan-favorite attractions in the Magic
Kingdom Park will be shut down for renovations for an entire year.?
A Frontierland
staple, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a fast-moving, roller coaster-type
ride that sees guests seated in ¡°train¡± cars that take off at high speeds, racing
along tracks and through tunnels.?
¡°Big Thunder
Mountain Railroad will temporarily close for refurbishment on January 6, 2025.
The attraction will reopen with a little bit of new magic in 2026,¡± the resort
posted on Big Thunder¡¯s information webpage.
So, the next few months will be guests¡¯ last chance to experience this classic
ride for quite some time.?
Local legend says
that, soon after the Big Thunder Mining Company discovered gold within the mountain
in the 1850s, the trains took to taking off and running amok entirely under
their own power. Guests will find themselves descending into a mine shaft,
speeding along rickety tracks, dodging exploding dynamite and falling boulders
as they dart through cursed caverns and careen past the eerie ghost town of
Tumbleweed.?
Big Thunder Mountain¡¯s
revamp is just one of the many developments coming to the Walt Disney World
Resort in the near future. As revealed at this year¡¯s D23
event, a new Villains Land will creep its way into the Magic Kingdom Park,
as will two new attractions and characters from Pixar¡¯s ¡°Cars, while a ¡°Monsters,
Inc.¡± land begins construction at Disney¡¯s Hollywood Studios. Meanwhile at
Disney¡¯s Animal Kingdom, a new Indiana Jones attraction is on its way, as is
the magical casita from Walt Disney Animation Studios¡¯ ¡°Encanto¡±.
