While the United States¡¯ international tourism continues to wane as travelers from other countries choose to travel elsewhere, it seems one of those places is Mexico, with new tourism data reporting that Mexico¡¯s seen an increase of 13.8 percent in international tourism arrivals during the first six months of 2025.?

According to Riviera Maya News, Mexico welcomed 47.4 million international tourists during the first six months of the year.?

Of that number, 5.7 million were cruise passengers, an increase of 9.6 percent from 2024. International tourists grew 10 percent in June alone.?

¡°Tourism continues to grow and strengthen its contribution to the national economy thanks to coordinated efforts with the private sector and all levels of government,¡± said Josefina Rodr¨ªguez Zamora, the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico during a press conference.?

¡°Through the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum, we continue working to ensure that the benefits of these figures translate into well-being for the resident communities, promoting community tourism as a tool for inclusive development.¡±?

The new data gives insight into a trend we¡¯ve been seeing all year: while international air travel to the United States is down 2.4 percent overall (from data released in May), and is significantly lower among Canadian visitation due to the so-called Trump Slump, Mexico is reaping the economic benefit of the downward trend.

Data from Mexico¡¯s tourism agency in May reported a 13 percent increase in Canadian visitation, and travelers from the U.S. are also visiting at a higher rate.?

While the Trump Slump continues, the United States is seeing one market grow: Mexican travelers are visiting the United States more this year than in 2024, with Mexican visitation increasing nearly 14 percent during the first six months of 2025.?
