Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has officially started building a new pier at its private island destination in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay.

¡°This past Friday, we celebrated a major milestone,¡± wrote Harry Sommers, the company¡¯s president and chief executive officer, in a post on LinkedIn. ¡°This exciting $150 million project will enhance access to our highest guest-rated destination in the world.¡±

In addition to cruise line executives, several local dignitaries were on hand to help celebrate, including the Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Edward Davis MP KC and Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper.

¡°By bolstering our footprint in the Bahamas, we¡¯re thrilled to create a deeper connection with the community and foster long-term opportunities for growth and sustainability,¡± Sommers wrote.

The company announced in April that it planned to make infrastructure updates at Great Stirrup Cay, including the construction of a new pier that will increase the destination¡¯s capacity. Once the pier is complete, multiple ships will be able to call on the island at the same time.
