Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has joined the SkyTeam Global Alliance in the aftermath of terminating its partnership with Star Alliance on Aug. 31.
Through the partnership, SAS passengers will have access to upward of 1,000 global destinations, the carrier said, noting that SAS EuroBonus Silver members become part of SkyTeam Elite, while Gold and Diamond members become part of Elite Plus.
¡°This is the beginning of a new era for SAS. Starting today, our customers will experience a smooth transition to SkyTeam, thanks to the tireless efforts of all SAS colleagues,¡± said SAS President and CEO Anko van der Werff.
The partnership will open new opportunities for our passengers, expand our global network, and allow us to collaborate closely with like-minded airlines.
¡°Together, we will offer even greater value to our customers while strengthening our position in the global aviation market.¡±
As a result of the partnership, SkyTeam said it will now be the sole airline alliance with service to the ¡°southernmost and northernmost commercial airports in the world: Ushuaia in Argentina and Svalbard in Norway.¡±
