Atlanta¡¯s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport continues to dominate globally when it comes to airline traffic.

The just-released 2024 Busiest Airports in the World report, from OAG, shows that the Atlanta airport recorded 62.7 million seats last year, a figure that amounted to a 2 percent increase over 2023. Atlanta also held the top spot in 2023 and 2019.

In addition to the ATL airport, the United States is home to three additional airports that are among the top 10 busiest globally. Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) is in the fifth place slot, reporting an 18 percent increase in traffic since 2019 to reach 51.5 million seats last year.

Denver International (DEN) is in sixth place thanks to a remarkable 24 percent growth since 2019, which brought the airport to 49.2 million seats in 2024. Chicago O¡¯Hare (ORD) rounds out the world's top 10 busiest airports with 47 million seats in 2024, according to the report.

The remaining airports in the top ten span the globe, with Dubai International (DXB) second overall and the leader in international capacity. DXB¡¯s international seat capacity in 2024 was 60.2 million, which when compared to ATL¡¯s 8.9M international seats demonstrates the importance of domestic travel in the US. Tokyo Haneda (HND) in third is followed by London Heathrow (LHR) in fourth place, according to the report.

China¡¯s Guangzhou Baiyun International (CAN) and Shanghai Pudong (PVG) take the seventh and ninth positions in the ranking, respectively, while Istanbul Airport (IST) moved up to eighth place in 2024, an indication of its growing importance as a global hub.
