More sustainable resorts, hotel collection growth and an end to the Choice-Wyndham acquisition are just some of the biggest news facing hotels and resorts in March. The WTTC's Hotel Sustainability Basics program is getting off to a good start: it's verified over 1,700 hotels across 70 countries worldwide since its inception, providing them with opportunities and guides on how to measure and implement sustainability initiatives.

The American Hotel & Lodging Association's CEO, William "Chip" Rogers, announced he was stepping down from the role to pursue other career opportunities in early March. A committee has been formed to search for his replacement. He held the role for five years.

MGM Resorts is now part of Marriott Bonvoy, as of early March. The MGM Collection includes sixteen MGM hotels and resorts, includng those in Las Vegas, such as the Excalibur and Luxor hotels and casinos.

Marriott celebrates its first luxury resort opening in St. Maarten with the new JW Marriott Beach Resort & Spa. It's located on Dawn Beach and offers 200 rooms, four dining venues, a spa and much more.

Sustainable hotel portfolio Beyond Green is offering travel advisors an inside look into its portfolio and experiences for guests with a new webinar series entitled, "Sustainable Guest Experiences." With 5 webinars, the portfolio will showcase how the hotels, lodges and resorts empower local communities, preserve wildlife and much more.

Choice Hotels has finally given up on its hostile takeover efforts of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. In mid-March, it failed to earn enough support from Wyndham's shareholders to force an aquisition.

Airbnb has banned indoor security cameras in all of its global rental listings. The new ban goes into effect on April 30. Prior to this, they were allowed in public areas like hallways and living rooms, as long as they were properly disclosed to guests.

IHG has partnered with EnviroSpark to expand its electric vehicle charging capacity at IHG hotels across the U.S. and Canada. Currently, 1,100 hotels in IHG's global portfolio offer EV charging stations. Guests can limit their searches for properties that have EV charging stations on the hotel brand's website.

Hyatt announced that it expects to open eight new hotels across India and Southwest Asia this year, including the Ronil Goa, Hyatt Regency Kasauli, Hyatt Regency Ghaziabad and Hyatt Centric Hebbal Bengaluru.

This March, Hilton announced plans to acquire the Graduate Hotels portfolio for $210 million. The acquisition will take place in the coming months and will be a long-term franchise agreement. Graduate Hotels is known for offering unique, lifestyle-focused hotels in college cities across the U.S. and the U.K.

Relais & Ch?teaux added twelve new hotels and resorts to its luxury portfolio in March, including Relais & Ch?teaux Lizard Island Resort in Queensland, Relais & Ch?teaux H?tel Balzac in Paris and two properties in North America.

In mid-March, Club Med announced it reached a significant business milestone, reaching $2 billion in international business volume. That's 16 percent higher than in 2022 and 17 percent higher than in 2019. More travelers are heading to its resorts, including its mountain resorts and its 5-star Exclusive Collection resorts.

Margaritaville's boutique hotel brand, Compass by Margaritaville, celebrated its expansion this March with the opening of the Compass Hotel by Margaritaville Naples. It's the brand's first conversion property and all-suite hotel. Future locations include Flagler Beach, Pigeon Forge and more.?

Hampton by Hilton unveiled a new cutting-edge North American prototype and announced a refreshed global brand identity this month. The highly anticipated North American prototype is expected to make its debut in 2025.

AAA added five North American hotels and one restaurant to its distinguished Four Diamonds list in March. The standout properties include the Paradox Hotel Vancouver and AZUR Legacy Collection Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; Luminary Hotel & Co., Autograph Collection in Fort Myers, Florida; Aguascalientes Marriott Hotel in Aguascalientes, Mexico; Hotel Riu Palace Pacifico in Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico and Mixtli in San Antonio, Texas.

Sandals opened its 18th Caribbean resort in March, introducing the 301-room Sandals Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Highlights include all-new dining concepts, a 300-foot linear pool that connects to the resort¡¯s lobby terrace and overwater villas, among other features.
