Bring the Big Screen to Your Backyard

      1/8
There can't be summer without Shark Week. While there are plenty of places where you can safely swim with these imposing fish you'll want to head to these awesome destinations to relive your favorite summer shark movies.

      Jaws, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts

      2/8
The legendary Steven Spielberg was only up-and-coming when he and his crew descended on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts in 1974 to film Jaws, the most iconic shark movie of all-time. Don't let the film's fictional beach town of Amity fool you, you can follow in the footsteps of Brody, Quint and Hooper from this New England treasure.

Open Water, Bahamas, USVI, Grenadines, Mexico

      3/8
Fans of the hair-raising thriller Open Water have another excuse to plan a trip to the Caribbean. Even though the 2003 movie is based in the southern Pacific Ocean, filming took place in the Bahamas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Grenadines and Mexico.

      Deep Blue Sea, Rosarito, Mexico

      4/8
A majority of the 1999 summer blockbuster Deep Blue Sea was filmed at Fox Baja Studios in Rosarito, Mexico, a popular resort city in Baja California Sur just over the U.S.-Mexico border not far from Hollywood. When visiting around the summer holidays of Memorial Day or Labor Day, you can expect to find more sun-hungry tourists than blood-thirsty sharks.

      Sharknado, Los Angeles, California

      5/8
No surprise here. The 2013 sci-fi cult classic where a group of friends attempts to defend the Santa Monica coast from shark-infested tornadoes (this is a real thing) was filmed in L.A. You can rest assured that the "sharknados" are all CGI. L.A. is actually an awesome place full of can't-miss sites.

      The Meg, Auckland, New Zealand

      6/8
2018's biggest summer shark movie was filmed almost entirely in and around Auckland, New Zealand. Fortunately, we can say with confidence that this awesome shoulder season destination isn't under the threat of a 75-foot-long megalodon shark.

      The Shallows, Australia

      7/8
The plot of The Shallows is a surfer's worst nightmare but thankfully it isn't based on a true story. Filmed in New South Wales and Queensland, Australia, the movie was originally supposed to be filmed off the coast of Galveston, Texas.

      47 Meters Down, Dominican Republic

      8/8
The Dominican Republic is where most of the exterior shots of 47 Meters Down were captured. According to the HuffPost, most of the filming took place in a 20-foot-deep tank in London. But the beautiful beaches of Punta Cana sound way more fun.
