Vegan Capital and Green Michelin Stars
5/7The quality, origin, and sustainability of our food, as well as the overall dining experience, have become important factors when choosing where and what to eat. In Berlin, this trend is amplified – and diners have countless culinary choices ranging from local to global, from star-rated to street food and plant-based to traditional.
Berlin is Europe’s vegan/vegetarian capital and also boasts more Green Michelin stars than Paris, London, or Los Angeles. Green Michelin stars are awarded to restaurants that offer culinary excellence and outstanding eco-friendly commitments, including working with sustainable producers, avoiding waste, and removing plastics and non-recyclables from their supply chain. Five of the eight awarded restaurants have “regular” Michelin stars, ranging from the 3-star RUTZ to 2-star Horvath, and the popular Nobelhart & Schmutzig, to zero waste restaurant FREA.
