      Sought-After Christmas Getaways

      1/11
Travel website Hopper recently released its 2020 Holiday Guidance Report, predicting that domestic airfare for Christmas will fall 40 percent this year to an average of $222 roundtrip due to the drop in demand brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The report also revealed the hottest Christmas season destinations across the country where travelers can save the most this winter compared to last year. Florida and Texas, two states without travel restrictions, dominate when it comes to domestic buzz, accounting for seven of the 10 cities, including the entire top five. Here's how the top 10 shakes out.

      10. Austin, Texas

      2/11
The Live Music Capital of the World rounds out the top 10 most hip U.S. cities this Christmas, with average domestic airfare costing travelers just $206 roundtrip. The surprisingly low figure signals a dramatic 37 percent drop compared to the 2019 holiday season.

      9. Cincinnati, Ohio

      3/11
Cincinnati is one of the hottest locales in the Midwest this Christmas and is one of the many places where Americans can stretch a limited budget. The average roundtrip flight cost comes in at just under $200, based on Hopper's research, signaling savings of 35 percent compared to the same time last year.

      8. Fort Lauderdale, Florida

      4/11
Fort Lauderdale is not only one of the top trending U.S. cities this Christmas but it's also the cheapest in the top 10 when it comes to airfare with the average roundtrip flight coming in at only $155. That represents a savings of 44 percent compared to Christmas 2019.

      7. Minneapolis, Minnesota

      5/11
Minneapolis is one of the few cold-weather destinations gaining momentum ahead of Christmas. But while flying to the Twin Cities will be much cheaper than in years past (38 percent savings), the average roundtrip ticket cost of $217 is still the highest of any destination in the top 10.

      6. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

      6/11
Philadelphia offers travelers plenty of history and the biggest savings of any city in the top 10, with average roundtrip airfare down 45 percent compared to the 2019 holiday season. At $200, the City of Brotherly Love is one of the best bargains out there this Christmas.

      5. Orlando, Florida

      7/11
With Walt Disney World theme parks recently increasing capacity to 35 percent, Orlando will no doubt be a popular destination this Christmas, and getting there will be cheaper compared to years past with Hopper projecting the average roundtrip ticket to cost $162. That represents a savings of 42 percent compared to 2019.

      4. Houston, Texas

      8/11
Texas' most populous city will be a fashionable destination this holiday season, according to Hopper. With roundtrip airfare coming in at only $202 on average, visitors to Houston stand to save as much as 39 percent this Christmas compared to last.

      3. Miami, Florida

      9/11
With chilly temperatures arriving in many places, sunny Miami continues to be a huge draw for Christmas travelers. When it comes to the average roundtrip flight to the 305, the cost is about half of that ($159). Only nearby Fort Lauderdale is cheaper among cities in the top 10.

      2. Tampa, Florida

      10/11
Florida's Gulf Coast is also gaining momentum ahead of Christmas, with Tampa emerging as one of the most popular and budget-friendly warm-weather getaways this December. Hopper reports that average roundtrip airfare ($176) is down 38 percent compared to Christmas 2019.

      1. Dallas, Texas

      11/11
Dallas is seeing the highest demand ahead of Christmas 2020, according to Hopper's research. Big D will certainly look a lot different this holiday season given the pandemic, however, it's never been more affordable with the average roundtrip flight ticket costing $214, down 36 percent from last year.
