      Alabama: The University of Alabama

      1/50
Picking a side of any Auburn/Alabama debate can be hazardous to your health in the Heart of Dixie, but there can only be one top tailgate in the state. Right now, the Crimson Tide wear the college football crown so they win this toss-up as well. Put on your finest houndstooth pants and learn to repeatedly say "Roll Tide" and you'll fit in just fine with the friendly crowds in Tuscaloosa.

      Alaska: The Peanut Farm

      2/50
Alaska may not have a college football team, but this bar in enthralling Anchorage still knows how to throw a pigskin party. The Peanut Farm resembles a log cabin from the outside and inside you will find over 70 screens of sports action. The best part for tailgaters? They open at 6 AM every day.

      Arizona: University of Arizona

      3/50
Tuscon is a true travel gem and the special atmosphere in and around U of A is a big reason why. And when the Wildcats are playing a home game, the fun gets cranked up a notch. The party starts on Friday on University Boulevard before hitting a crescendo at the Mall on Saturday. Even if the home team loses, tailgaters are almost always guaranteed idyllic weather.

      Arkansas: University of Arkansas

      4/50
Razorback fans are famous for screaming "Woo Pig Sooie!" inside the stadium and you'll find plenty of pulled pork-and other tailgate staples-being enjoyed outside of it. Join the crowds to learn all about where the unique chant came from and to experience one of the most underrated pregame parties in the SEC.

      California: University of Southern California

      5/50
There is a load of competition for best tailgate in the Golden State, but the Trojans take the title because there's nowhere else in California where you can enjoy pre-game sips within a stone's throw of a historic stadium like the Coliseum. Fight on with the crowds here and you'll have tons of fun under the California sun, too.

      Colorado: Denver Broncos

      6/50
With all due respect to the Buffaloes that play in Boulder, Broncos fans throw the best bash in Colorado. The parking lot surrounding the stadium turns into a sea of blue and orange on Sundays, and after you've had your fill of grilled food and great local craft beer, swing by "Mini Mile High" to see a replica of the legendary former stadium that used to stand on the site

      Connecticut: University of Connecticut

      7/50
The Husky faithful know how to have a good time and an autumn run to Rentschler Field is required for all fans of tailgating in the Northeast. Put on your navy and white and join the party in the parking lots that surround the stadium and you'll quickly learn that Connecticut knows how to do football right.

      Delaware: University of Delaware

      8/50
You might not find overflow crowds of raucous revelers before Blue Hens games, but you will find modest numbers of extremely dedicated tailgaters. Join them to hear tales about touchdowns past that were passed by former Delaware QBs Rich Gannon and Joe Flacco.

      Florida: Florida State University

      9/50
You typically won't find quite the same fanatical dedication to tailgating in Florida as you do in some neighboring states, but that doesn't mean you won't have a blast prepping for a Seminoles game in super-cool Tallahassee. Parties are spread out here, so arrive early in order to seek out a primo spot for your party.

      Georgia: University of Georgia

      10/50
On any given day, Athens is arguably the best college town in America and things only get amped up when the Dawgs are at home. Join the crowds from 7 AM and then after you watch Georgia win, keep the party going well into the evening at the great local bars and breweries.

      Hawaii: University of Hawaii

      11/50
The only tailgaters for thousands of miles, fans of Rainbow Warriors throw down with the best of them on the mainland. Before the game, the parking lot of Aloha Stadium fill up with revelers feasting on local food and drink and classic tailgate fare. Whatever you do, make sure to put sunscreen on under your green body paint.

      Idaho: Boise State University

      12/50
Boise has blossomed into one of the most buzzworthy travel destinations in the USA and those that visit in autumn are in for a colorful treat. The foliage in the hills surrounding town? Nah, the world famous blue turf where the Boise State Broncos play. Before the scoreboard gets lit up, fans get warmed up before the game in the spaces surrounding the stadium.

      Illinois: University of Illinois

      13/50
Make for Memorial Stadium in your shiniest orange suit (what, you don't own one?) and you'll fit right in with Fightin' Illini fans. Before you enter the stadium, join the gatherings at Grange Grove for a tailgate Champaign-Urbana style. Who knows, you may even get the chance to sip a champagne-filled mimosa.

      Indiana: Purdue University

      14/50
Notre Dame knows how to tailgate and IU is certainly in the mix too, but Purdue nabs the Hoosier State crown for their steadfast dedication to pre-football frivolity. The parties start just after sunrise here and they don't die down when the Boilermakers leave the field either; they linger late into the night.

      Iowa: University of Iowa

      15/50
While many college towns come alive during home football games, how many other teams' marching bands bounce from bar to bar the night before a game? That's what happens in classic college town Iowa City and then the whole place turns black-and-gold on gameday as hundreds of thousands descend to root on the Hawkeyes.

      Kansas: Kansas State University

      16/50
They certainly know how to kick it at KU, but K-State has parlayed its recent on-field success into great things off the field, too. Paint yourself purple and peruse the parking lot outside Bill Snyder Family Stadium to see the Wildcat faithful go wild.

      Kentucky: University of Kentucky

      17/50
Sure, victories in the SEC have been tough to come by lately for UK, but that fact doesn't stop the good times from rolling in Lexington. In fact, in a sign of the strength of their pregame partying prowess, the 'Cats just introduced rental "luxury homes" to their tailgate scene.

      Louisiana: Louisiana State University

      18/50
Louisiana citizens are well versed in appreciating fine food and drink and it carries over to Tiger tailgates in Baton Rouge. Purple and gold-clad fans start showing up on Thursday night in order to start cooking Louisiana specialties and sip local libations and the good times roll on through until gameday on Saturday.

      Maine: University of Maine

      19/50
The fields and parking lots around Harold Alfond Stadium roar to life when the Black Bears play at home. If there is one game that epitomizes this fan base's tailgating talent, it's the yearly battle with New Hampshire also known as the Battle for the Musket.

      Maryland: Baltimore Ravens

      20/50
College Park certainly paints the town red for the Terps, but Ravens fans turn Baltimore purple. Stop by Lot H for the most happening parties and a chance to taste loads of local food and drink before the Ravens take flight. After the game, keep the fun going at one of the city's fantastic sports bars.

      Massachusetts: New England Patriots

      21/50
The Patriots entered the upper echelon of elite franchises long ago and while their tailgating scene might not be the Greatest of All-Time like Tom Brady, it certainly holds its own. Fans flock to Foxborough from all over New England-and the world-to toast to five Super Bowl championships and neck New England craft beer.

      Michigan: University of Michigan

      22/50
Nevermind what the residents of East Lansing say, the best tailgate in the state still resides in alluring Ann Arbor. Before anyone enters the Big House, they spend time with thousands of fellow fans wearing maize and blue in the spaces surrounding the stadium. If they're really dedicated, they even watch the Michigan Marching Band practice the night before the game. Join them for a day you won't forget.

      Minnesota: University of Minnesota

      23/50
No matter the temperature outside, fans of the Golden Gophers get things warmed up outside the stadium. Bust out your best maroon and gold clothes and go out there and join them to fully experience this important slice of Twin Cities life.

      Mississippi: University of Mississippi

      24/50
Is the Grove at Ole Miss the greatest tailgating spot in the country? Probably, but there's only one way to know for certain: put on your finest khakis, collared shirt or dress and practice your "Hotty Toddy" chant so you can do some first-hand research.

      Missouri: Kansas City Chiefs

      25/50
Mizzou knows how to let loose, but the pros in cool Kansas City turn the area around Arrowhead into a full-on football fiesta on Sundays. A new rule to encourage tailgaters to enter the game instead of loitering has created some uproar among fans, so stay tuned to see if this affects their standing going forward.

      Montana: Montana State

      26/50
You haven't tailgated until you've done it under a big Montana sky and at MSU you get the added bonus of getting to experience one of the country's most overlooked cool towns. Bobcat fans turn each home game into an excuse to host fun get-togethers and if you join them you might just leave head over heels for Bozeman.

      Nebraska: University of Nebraska

      27/50
Cornhusker tailgates can compete with any fanbase in the country. From organized events at local bars to raging morning soirees in student neighborhoods, they hit it hard in Lincoln. Come clad in bright red and sporting a smile and you are sure to be invited in on the fun.

Nevada: University of Nevada Las Vegas

      28/50
In a city that serves up food and drinks 24/7, fans are free to start rooting for the Rebels whenever and wherever they choose. For those that prefer pre-organized parties though, there is a parking lot near Sam Boyd Stadium where you will find food trucks and fun before each game.

New Hampshire: University of New Hampshire

      29/50
You will have to own a ticket to the game in order to enter the official tailgates at UNH, but that just means those that make it are especially dedicated to seeing the Wildcats win. Boulder Field is the place to go for the biggest parties-especially during Homecoming.

      New Jersey: Rutgers

      30/50
Fans of the Scarlet Knights do tailgating right. Expect to see nearly every shade of red clothing passed off as scarlet attire and for friendly parking lot parties to welcome everyone, whether you are rooting for Rutgers or their opponent.

New Mexico: University of New Mexico

      31/50
Lobos fans have always thrown one of the more underrated tailgates in the West, but in 2018 things have been taken up a notch. The school has entered into a partnership with a hospitality group that promises to make having fun before the game easier than ever before.

      New York: Syracuse University

      32/50
Sure, the Orangemen haven't had a ton of success on the field in recent years, but that doesn't mean they don't still hold the tailgate title in the Empire State. The parties are spread around in Syracuse, which just gives fans an excuse to bounce from party to party.

      North Carolina: North Carolina State

      33/50
There's no question that UNC and Duke have strong tailgate talent, but the Wolfpack are right there with them. Despite having one of their most popular lots recently closed on them, NC State fans have vowed to keep the party going. For that, they should be saluted.

      North Dakota: North Dakota State

      34/50
With its range of entertainment and local beer bars, Fargo is always a fun time. The good times go up a few notches when the Bison play at home and you can expect enough grilled food and beer to feed a herd and the for the post-game party to last well into the evening.

      Ohio: Ohio State

      35/50
OU in Athens definitely has a solid scene, but the Buckeyes are still THE tailgate in the state of Ohio. You won't find any other tailgate on our list with as high of a quality football team in as great of a big city like Columbus. Why not stay at the recently opened beer hotel to take things to the next level?

      Oklahoma: Oklahoma State

      36/50
Stillwater is anything but still when the Cowboys play at home. Expect a bevy of burnt orange-clad revelers to start putting up tents in parking lots the night before the game and for it all to build to a crescendo before kickoff. Afterward, celebrate an OSU victory at one of the many down-to-earth watering holes in town.

      Oregon: University of Oregon

      37/50
A few years back, the Ducks were perennially in the hunt for the national title and during that stretch, their fans started throwing one of the country's best tailgate parties. While the team has fallen on harder times lately, the good times are still going strong in ultra-cool Eugene.

      Pennsylvania: Penn State

      38/50
On game days, Happy Valley is a very happy place to be indeed. Partake with thousands of new friends in the parking lots before the game and then put on your finest white shirt to watch the game with 100,000-plus of your new best friends at Beaver Stadium.

Rhode Island: University of Rhode Island

      39/50

      South Carolina: Clemson

      40/50
Clemson has surged to the top of the polls in recent years and it's not just the action on the field that is championship caliber. The tailgating scene is one of the South's best; all surrounded by one of the most gorgeous campuses in the country.

      South Dakota: South Dakota State

      41/50
SDSU might not be the biggest program in the country, but they are on the rise. The tailgating scene can more than hold its own and if you're lucky, you may find a friendly face or two that remembers watching Adam Vinatieri kick the ball for the Jackrabbits.

      Tennessee: University of Tennessee

      42/50
Things have been a bit up-and-down for Volunteer fans of late, but the tailgate party scene is still strong in Knoxville. Tennessee fans also introduced "boat-gating" to the college football world, and America is a much better place for it.

      Texas: University of Texas

      43/50
The Aggies are awesome at tailgating, but in a state that prides itself on doing things big, always-fun Austin is home to a proper "Texas-sized" tailgate. Tag along with your friends or make new ones at a Texas game, but just make sure you practice your "hook 'em horns" hand gesture beforehand.

      Utah: University of Utah

      44/50
Some people still mistakenly think Utah is a dry state, but one swing through a Utes tailgate will set you straight. No, you won't find too many parched people in the parking lots here, but you will find all the tailgate staples.

      Vermont: Ruben James Sports Bar

      45/50
There are no college football teams in Vermont at the moment, but that doesn't mean you can't have a great time at Ruben James sports bar. They've got lots of screens and happen to serve up some of the best chicken wings in New England.

      47/50
Owning the best waterside tailgate this side of Tennessee, the Huskies are atop the polls once again and the tailgating scene is surging, too. Arriving by boat, nicknamed "sailgating" is all the rage here, but if you stick to dry land you won't be disappointed either.

      West Virginia: West Virginia University

      48/50
Morgantown is mad for football and even though they aren't supposed to be burning couches here anymore, things still get hot before the game. Enjoy local brews and scenic views of the surrounding hills before heading into the stadium.

      Wisconsin: University of Wisconsin

      49/50
Madison is hands down one of the most fun college towns in the country and when the Badgers play, the party blows up. Put on your red-and-white overalls and sink your teeth into a bratwurst and you're well on your way to having the time of your life.

      Wyoming: University of Wyoming

      50/50
