Neuschwanstein Castle - Schwangau, Germany
2/21It's hard to create a list of fairytale castles without including the Neuschwanstein Castle in Schwangau, Germany, which inspired Disney's magical Sleeping Beauty Castle. Located in the beautiful Bavarian countryside, construction began in 1869 by King Ludwig II but, unfortunately, was not finished until after the king's death in 1886. While this beauty boasts an ornate two-story throne room, it is ironically missing the most important feature-an actual throne-since the king died before construction was complete. Due to its popularity among visitors, tickets should be reserved well in advance.
