      An Ideal Golf Getaway

      1/26
You fly in on Friday morning, fly out on Sunday night. In between, 18 holes of golf on Friday morning, 36 on Saturday, and 18 more on Sunday morning before flying home.

A weekend golf holiday, to the max.

Here are 25 courses worth packing up your clubs for. (In no particular order)

      Four Seasons Resort, Nevis

      2/26
The course at the resort was designed by Robert Trent Jones II, the legendary son of the legendary designer, and features several oceanside holes. Ask about the Four Seasons' special unlimited golf packages.

      Pebble Beach, Pebble Beach, Calif.

      3/26
A legendary course in its own right, Pebble Beach will host the U.S. Open in this, its 100th year of existence, on what is arguably some of the most spectacularly scenic courses, as many holes hug the Pacific Ocean coastline.

Shangri-La's Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives

      4/26
Golf can be fickle. You can shoot brilliantly one round, horrid the next. To help decrease the stress, you'll find one of the most interesting courses here at this resort - there are no par-5 holds and only three par-4's.

      Pinehurst Resort, Pinehurst, NC

      5/26
Now 120 years old, Pinehurst is one of America's greatest golf courses - or, actually, several of them. Pinehurst No. 2 is so legendary, and difficult, that there's a $195 premium on top of the greens fees just to play on it.

      Apes Hill Club, Barbados

      6/26
Aptly named because the adjacent jungle houses a plethora of green monkeys, which you can hear while playing. It makes for a bizarre, albeit totally different, experience on the golf course. The seaside holes, especially No. 3, are outrageously beautiful.

      Pacific Dunes, Bandon, Oregon

      7/26
The second course built at the Bandon Dunes Resort, Pacific Dunes is a fun course. Short enough to give players an advantage, yet its natural beauty along the ocean, including sand dunes and pine trees, make for natural barriers and bunkers.

Kauri Cliffs Golf Club, New Zealand

      8/26
The great thing about New Zealand is, while the months of November, December, January, February and March are considered winter in North America, this is New Zealand's summer. And it is warm and glorious. Kauri Cliffs is aptly named PHOTO: The lodge at Kauri Cliffs.

Kiawah Island Resort (Ocean Course), Kiawah Island, SC

      9/26
Just a spectacular course, one that is worthy enough to have held a major golf championship and the Ryder Cup. Kiawah is the only course in the U.S. with 10 seaside holes.

Kauai Lagoons Golf Club, Kauai, Hawaii

      10/26
Located at the Kauai Marriott Resort, golfers get the best of both worlds - the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. The course itself is considered one of the best, if not the best, in all of Hawaii.

TPC Sawgrass (Players Stadium Course), Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

      11/26
All you need to know is that Golfweek magazine called TPC Sawgrass 'the best course you can play in the state of Florida,' while Golf Digest said it was the 10th best public course in the entire country.

Casa de Campo Resort, Dominican Republic

      12/26
Ever go up against the Teeth of the Dog? You will here, because that's the name of the course that's been called the best in the Caribbean by Golf Magazine. Seven of the holes are right up against the magnificent Minitas Beach.

      The Abacos Club, Abacos, Bahamas

      13/26
This is a unique course especially for its location. Right in the Caribbean, The Abacos Club is a Scottish-style links course with one of the most amazing finishing holes of any course, nestled up against the ocean.

Harbor Town Golf Links, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

      14/26
Another course that the PGA loves to host tournaments at, not just because of the lush scenery but because of an 18th hole that is considered one of the most difficult in the world.

The Lodge at Torrey Pines, San Diego, California

      15/26
Check in to The Lodge for a stay, and that gets you priority tee times to the course where the PGA Tour's Farmers Insurance Open is played every year. Or, in a nutshell, played the course that Tiger Woods plays.

      Streamsong Resort, Streamsong, Fla.

      16/26
Carts are available here, but the course - co-designed by former PFA star Ben Crenshaw - was built with nature and the environment designed. Thus, you are encouraged to walk the course to truly appreciate it.

Ritz-Carlton, The Golf Club at Dove Mountain, Marana, Arizona

      17/26
About a half-hour drive from Tucson, this Jack Nicklaus-designed course that beautifully blends into the Tortolita Mountain Range. There are actually 27 holes here as well.

      The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii

      18/26
Some courses are built by oceans, some by mountains. This one was built out of the Sonoran Desert. Play all 27 holes to soak in all the beauty.

      The Phoenician, Scottsdale, Arizona

      19/26
Some courses are built by oceans, some by mountains. This one was built out of the Sonoran Desert. Play all 27 holes to soak in all the beauty.

      Dorado Beach, Dorado, Puerto Rico

      20/26
Not one, not two but three courses - East, Pineapple and Sugarcane - on this northern coast property. The entire Dorado Resort is spectacular.

Half Moon Bay Golf Links, Half Moon Bay, Calif.

      21/26
Just 30 miles south of San Francisco, this is one of the country's premier public courses. Actually, two courses. You can play either The Old Course or The Ocean Course, both of which are equally challenging - and gorgeous.

Pelican Hill Golf Club, Newport Beach, Calif.

      22/26
They describe Pelican Hill as "a two-course feast for the senses." And they aren't kidding. The North Course has tremendous panoramic views; the South Course has three holes built right on the coast.

Cabo del Sol, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

      23/26
Play either the Desert Course or the Ocean Course. Or both. Each has its own challenges and its own characteristics, befitting a Jack Nicklaus-designed course.

      Whistling Straits, Haven, Wisconsin

      24/26
A Pete Dye-designed public course that hugs a two-mile stretch of Lake Michigan, and it's spectacular. Obviously it's a course that can only be played in spring and summer (with a healthy dose of a nice fall), but it's worth it. Whistling Straits has hosted three major championships so far and will host the 2020 Ryder Cup. Be warned now - there are more than 1,000 bunkers on this course.

      Grand National, Opelika, Alabama

      25/26
The course was designed by the famous Robert Trent Jones, so that speaks volumes as it is. It's challenging, to be sure. As you can see from the photo, there's a ton of water here to navigate.

      The Bluffs, St. Francisville, Louisiana

      26/26
One of the top courses in the state, The Bluffs is actually a full and complete resort situated among upscale homes. The course was designed by the legend himself, Arnold Palmer, The par-3 eighth hole features a 50-foot drop to the fairway and is one of the most challenging.
