How Far Would You Travel for Beer?

      1/26
"24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence?" - comedian Stephen Wright

"He was a wise man who invented beer." - Plato

"Beer. It's the best damn drink in the world." - Jack Nicholson

Are you sensing a theme yet? Down through the ages, people have loved their beer. Revered it, in fact. Now they'll travel to the ends of the earth in the pursuit of ales and pales and pilsners and creams. Here are 50 towns, cities, states and countries where beer lovers should travel to in 2019.

      St. Louis, Missouri, USA

      2/26
Is there a more quintessential American city for beer than St. Louis? In addition to being the home of Anheuser-Busch and the iconic Budweiser brand, the city is home to several great craft breweries, including Perennial Artisan Ales and 4 Hands Brewing.

      Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

      3/26
As if this city didn't have enough going for it, Rio is suddenly becoming a hot spot for beer. The city launched its version of the Mondial de la Biere Rio, an international beer festival held in Paris and Montreal, six years ago.

      Vermont, USA

      4/26
You thought Vermont was just for skiing, maple syrup and Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream? Think again. According to craftbrewingbusiness.com, Vermont has the most breweries per resident. Granted, the state isn't as large as California or New York, but it nonetheless has an impressive 11.7 breweries for every 100,000 residents. Start with a trip to The Alchemist and its famous Heady Topper.

      Seoul, South Korea

      5/26
With beer brands like "The Booth Throat Punch" and "Amazing Shocking Stout," Seoul is emerging as a strong competitor in Asia, next to Sapporo in Japan and Tsingtao in China. If you go, check out Gyeongnidan, Seoul's craft beer alley that features some pretty amazing food, too.

      Maine, USA

      6/26
More than 80 breweries can be found in Maine, churning out everything from IPAs to English and Belgian ales to lagers. Be sure to try to Allagash Brewing Coolship Red.

      Toronto, Ontario, Canada

      7/26
Sure, you know Molson and Labatt, but Canada-and specifically Toronto-has become a haven for craft brews. The Ontario Craft Brewery Tours will take you on a visit to some of the local establishments, with samples provided.

      Oregon, USA

      8/26
Gonna be honest here-sometimes the name alone makes you want to try a beer. Out of 261 different varieties, Deschutes' Cinder Cone Red and de Garde Brewing's The Broken Truck are just two ridiculously delicious craft beers the state of Oregon produces.

      Dublin, Ireland

      9/26
One word: Guinness. The brewery at St. James gate is arguably the most visited brewery tour in the world. But Dublin is more than just Guinness. You'll run out of days before you run out of Irish pubs serving stouts and ales on par with any beer in the world.

      Colorado, USA

      10/26
Colorado has the third-most breweries in the United States and the fourth-most breweries per capita which, you know, is sort of just mathematical talk that they love their beer. The home of Coors, Colorado has so many festivals dedicated to beer, including Denver's The Great American Beer Festival, which is a beer lover's dream.

      Wyoming, USA

      11/26
With 27 breweries in the state, we suggest you enjoy some homemade adult beverages on your next trip to Yellowstone National Park. Snake River Brewing sounds pretty good!

      Beijing, China

      12/26
Beijing is yet another emerging market for both craft breweries and traditional brands such as Snow and TsingTao. While you can get the traditional brands virtually anywhere, you'll need to travel to Beijing to see its thriving microbrewery scene, including up-and-coming brands such as Jing-A-Brewing Co.

      Michigan, USA

      13/26
Would you believe there are almost 400 breweries in the state of Michigan? What's more, the state is home to some of the best beer festivals in the country, including the Detroit Fall Beer Festival, the Summer Beer Festival and the Michigan Cider Dayze Festival.

      Boise, Idaho, USA

      14/26
A city that has burst on the scene when it comes to beer, Boise has some of the best breweries in the country, including Boise Brewing, Woodland Empire, Payette Brewing and a branch of Montana's famous White Dog Brewing.

      Munich, Germany

      15/26
How could any list of the world's best beer destinations be complete without Munich? The home of Oktoberfest features the Hofbrauhaus Munchen, a veritable shrine among beer halls.

      New York, USA

      16/26
The city that never sleeps was never truly known as a beer town-well, at least not in Manhattan. Now, the breweries are shifting and opening locations in the city proper while still maintaining a presence in the outer boroughs. That includes Grimm Artisanal Ales and Transmitter Brewing.

      Chicago, Illinois, USA

      17/26
Da Bears? No, da beers! Between Baderbrau Brewing, Pipeworks, Half Acre, Off Color, Local Option and more, the craft brewery scene in Chicago is absolutely thriving. A beer lover's destination, for sure.

      London, England

      18/26
There's nothing like a good English pub. Microbreweries have popped up all over London, serving more than just the typical pint. Fuller's Brewery offers daily tours and the Bermondsey Beer Mile is a must.

      Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

      19/26
Like St. Louis, Milwaukee is considered one of America's beer capitals, being home to traditional brewers such as Miller, Pabst and Schlitz. But, the city has also become famous for its local tastes, including Lakefront and Louie's Demise.

      Asheville, North Carolina, USA

      20/26
When you call yourself Beer City, USA, you better be able to back it up. Asheville backs it up. Wicked Weed, Green Man and Burial Beer Company produce some of the best local craft beers you'll ever find.

      Bruges, Belgium

      21/26
The world famous Brugs Beertje, one of the first artisanal beer cafes, is located in this Belgian city. In addition, there are hundreds of beer bars, as you might expect, as well as February's annual beer festival.

      Boston, Massachusetts, USA

      22/26
Cambridge Brewing, Sam Adams, Trillium Brewing Co. Ah, Boston. The city is home to numerous breweries and beer festivals, as well as the famous annual Bacon and Beer Fest.

      Missoula, Montana, USA

      23/26
Already known as a great college town, Missoula is the home of Big Sky Brewing Co., which is home to one of the best-known-and best-tasting-craft brews in Moose Drool Brown Ale.

      Melbourne, Australia

      24/26
Foster's might have been Australian for beer, mate, but that was a long time ago. Melbourne is now the poster child for local beers, including Sailors Grave Brewing and Two Birds Brewing.

      Tampa, Florida, USA

      25/26
Wow, what a collection of great local craft beers. You've got Cigar City Brewing, Tampa Bay Brewing Co., Coppertail Brewing Co., Angry Chair Brewing, Tampa Beer Works, Brew Bus Brewing and more. A true paradise for a wide varsity of tastes.

      Sonoma County, California, USA

      26/26
Huh? A beer destination smack in the middle of wine country? Yep. Bear Republic, Russian River, Third Street, Fogbelt and Lagunitas are just a few of the great breweries and craft beers you'll find here among the world-class wineries.
