      Windstar Cruises' Renovated Star Breeze

      1/7
Windstar Cruises' Star Breeze was almost completely rebuilt as part of the line's $250 million Star Plus Initiative, which expanded and renovated the line's three small power yachts. The Star Breeze was cut in half with a new section inserted, giving the ship 50 additional suites for a total of 156. The Star Breeze, now operating in the Caribbean from St. Maarten, grew to 12,995 gross tons and can accommodate 312 passengers. So it's larger, but still decidedly a small ship. Here are some of the ship's new features.

      Cuadro 44

      2/7
The Star Breeze now offers an impressive assortment of eateries for a ship so small. One of the new restaurants is Cuadro 44, a modern Spanish tapas restaurant by Anthony Sasso, a James Beard Foundation-recognized chef and 13-year veteran of the Michelin-starred restaurant Casa Mono in New York City. The venue seats 36 people. Reservations are required, but there is no cover charge. Popular selections include charred Portuguese octopus and Iberico ham from pigs fed only acorns.

      Star Grill by Steven Raichlen

      3/7
Another new spot on Star Breeze is the 88-seat Star Grill by Steven Raichlen, the grill master who has a show on PBS TV. The eatery sits on the top deck, opposite the Star Bar, and has its own galley with a smoker, grill, griddle and rotisserie. Open for lunch and dinner, guests can select a daily special - small spit-roasted chickens, marinated meats with sauces or ship-cured and smoked pastrami - or the always available bacon cheeseburger and all-beef hot dog. The outdoor seating is protected from the sun and the occasional Caribbean rain shower.

      Veranda

      4/7
Veranda is a casual spot for breakfast and lunch with 138 seats, indoors and out. It offers a buffet and hot menu selections, as well as a coffee bar. In the evening, the outdoor seating area of Veranda transforms into Candles, an alfresco steakhouse lit by electronic candles. Other dining options on Star Breeze include Amphora, the main restaurant for dinner; Yacht Club, a comfortable lounge that offers light options, such as pastries and coffee beverages in the morning and sandwiches and sweets later; and 24-hour room service.

      Owner's Suite Midship

      5/7
The accommodations throughout the ship were updated in touches of nautical navy and neutral tones. All the bathrooms were completely redone, with double sinks and walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads. Some of the suites have showers in a bathtub, but the premium suites have separate bathtubs and walk-in showers. Pictured is the 820-square-foot Owner's Suite Midship. The 50 new suites have the beds next to the French balcony or window/porthole, while the original accommodations have the sitting area next to the window - so guests have their choice. The majority of the suites are 277 square feet in size.

      New Pool Deck

      6/7
The pool deck was completely redone, with a brand-new pool, one glass wall, a waterfall feature in the front and tons of space for sunbathing or reading in the shade. The teak decking is all new.

      Al Fresco Dining

      7/7
One night during every cruise, the staff throws an outdoor barbecue on deck. Selections include grilled lobster, shrimp, meats, salads and more.
