Italy’s iconic capital of Rome will take center stage this fall when the world’s top tourism and government leaders gather for the’s (WTTC) 25th annual Global Summit, set to run from September 28 to 30 at the city’s Auditorium Parco della Musica.
As one of the most influential gatherings in the global travel calendar, the 2025 WTTC Global Summit is expected to draw high-profile names from across the tourism industry—including CEOs, ministers, city leaders and innovators—all coming together to map out the future of a sector that continues to fuel job creation, economic growth and international connection.
The event is being hosted in partnership with Italy’s Ministry of Tourism, the Italian National Tourist Board (ENIT), the Municipality of Rome and the Lazio Region. Rome is a natural choice to host an industry rooted in history, creativity and the sharing of cultures.
“Italy represents everything the world loves about travel—beauty, quality, culture and cuisine,” said WTTC President & CEO Julia Simpson. “Rome is the perfect stage for a Summit that will welcome the world’s tourism leaders to think boldly, act collaboratively, and help shape a decade of growth rooted in excellence.”
The travel and tourism industry is entering a decade of rapid expansion, with growth expected to outpace the broader global economy nearly four times over. With its strong presence in luxury travel, cruising, fashion and wellness tourism, Italy is set to play a leading role in this evolution.
The 2025 Global Summit will spotlight the most pressing and inspiring developments in the industry—from artificial intelligence and sustainable aviation to destination stewardship, cultural preservation, transport innovation, luxury and fashion travel, and forward-looking tourism policies for a more connected future.
One major moment during the summit will be the leadership transition at WTTC. Greg O’Hara, founder and managing director of Certares Management, will step down as chair, passing the role on to Manfredi Lefebvre, Chairman of Heritage Group and Co-Chair of Abercrombie & Kent.
“As we gather in the heart of Italy, we are not just celebrating the resilience of the travel and tourism industry, but also embracing the opportunity to innovate and inspire for a sustainable future. Rome, with its rich history and vibrant culture, serves as an ideal backdrop for this pivotal dialogue among global leaders,” Lefebvre remarked. “Together, we can harness the power of tourism to create meaningful experiences that transcend borders and foster global connections."
Italy, one of the most admired travel destinations in the world, is a fitting backdrop for the event. As Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè noted during a recent meeting with WTTC, the country offers “beauty everywhere”. It’s a country shaped by the concept of “la Grande Bellezza”—a timeless blend of heritage and contemporary creativity informed by local history, nature, architecture, cuisine, music and culture.
With major international events like the Ryder Cup and America’s Cup reinforcing its global appeal, and a growing focus on its sustainable “blue economy” initiatives, such as eco-friendly marinas and yachting, Italy continues to evolve as a modern tourism leader.
As Europe’s fourth most visited country, Italy offers more than just a destination—it offers a transformative experience. From renowned wellness sanctuaries to iconic luxury fashion houses, it epitomizes the very best in travel. This year’s Global Summit will honor and delve into that enduring legacy.
