      Global tour operator Authentic Vacations recently analyzed many popular worldwide tourism destinations according to a series of metrics, which included tourist-to-local ratios, airport proximity, local airport quality, overall happiness of the destination, English proficiency, availability of accommodations and safety ratings, and has compiled a collection the top tourist-friendly destinations worldwide based upon its findings. Five of the top ten picks can be found in Europe, with the other five spanning across the Middle East, Asia, Australia and the Americas.

      Amsterdam, Netherlands

      The single most tourist-friendly city in the world, Amsterdam's appeal outwardly is clear, with its brightly-colored, picturesque buildings, charming canals, and abundance of culture and history. Besides its obvious architectural beauty, and wealth of historic sights and attractions to explore, the Dutch capital also scored 70 out of 100 in terms of tourism-friendliness.

      Vienna, Austria

      Another highly historic European capital city, Vienna, Austria, comes in second place, scoring 67 out of 100 when it comes to providing tourists with an inviting welcome. An epicenter for Continental society and the arts for centuries now, opportunities for cultural exploration here are virtually unmatched. The grandeur of the city's well-maintained historic structures and avenues also makes a standout among the storied centers of Europe.

      Dubai, United Arab Emirates

      Likewise scoring 67 out of a possible 100 is the uniquely cosmopolitan city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The "City of Gold" has developed into, not only a global financial epicenter, but also a tourism magnet, which draws 63 million tourists a year. It was recently cited as the world's most Insta-worthy city, second only to New York in the United States.

      London, England

      Well-known capital of the U.K., London, England, achieved 64 out of 100 for tourism-friendliness, but scored an impressive 20 out of 20 when it came to sorting out accommodations. With over 109,000 places to stay, whether weekending in Chelsea or overnighting in Camden, there are an abundance of guest rooms on offer to suit every need.

      Copenhagen, Denmark

      The Scandinavian capital city of Copenhagen, Denmark, came in with a total of 63 out of 100 points overall. Copenhagen has been called the happiest city in the world, which was reflected in Authentic Vacations' findings, with locals' happiness levels scoring 15 out of 20 on average. Characterized by picturesque parks, promenades, canals and waterfronts, Copenhagen also carries the distinction of being the safest tourist-friendly city with a score of 85 out of 100. So, visitors can put their minds at relative ease while soaking up its spectacular sights and cultural treasures.

      New York, New York

      While New York City may not have a reputation for being filled with friendly locals looking to welcome tourists, it's nonetheless among the world's most famous cities, with domestic and international visitors alike flocking to the Big Apple to take in Broadway shows, see the city's iconic sights or simply experience its singular social vibe. welcoming about 65 million visitors annually. Scoring 60 out of 100 for tourist-friendliness, NYC hosts about 65 million visitors annually.

      Berlin, Germany

      Berlin, Germany, comes in seventh in the rankings with a score of 60 out of 100 for tourist-friendliness. With much of the city having been renovated and rebuilt following World War II, as well as at the close of the Cold War era, there's a wealth of both old and new architecture to be seen here, often sitting side-by-side. Museums, botanical gardens, cultural exhibits and even consumer conventions drew around 13.5 million visitors to this destination last year, according to Statista.com.

      Sydney, Australia

      Capital of New South Wales and one of Australia's largest cities, Sydney scored 59 out of 100 in the survey. World-class galleries, museums, concerts and theatrical performances combine with a distinctively waterfront culture, producing endless opportunities for both indoor and outdoor adventuring. With a fascinating historical and cultural heritage, and a welcoming spirit among the locals, it's no wonder that Sydney has become an international favorite.

      Hong Kong, China

      China's Hong Kong scored 57 out of 100, coming in eighth overall on the tourism-friendliness roster. Vibrant and teeming with activity, Hong Kong holds an exotic appeal for Westerners, yet scores highly when it comes to proficiency in English, owing to its legacy as a former British colony. Boasting the world's largest number of skyscrapers, its population is densely packed, but the urban skyline is highly impressive.

      Vancouver, Canada

      Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada, rounds out the top ten most tourist-friendly cities, scoring 55 out of 100. Surrounded by the ocean on one side and snow-capped mountains on the other, Vancouver continues to grow as a tourism hotspot thanks to its striking natural beauty, as well as the many opportunities its landscape affords for activities like skiing, snowboarding, mountain-biking and kayaking. It also offers some of the mildest weather in all of Canada, with winter temperatures that typically stay above freezing and an average high of 71¡ã F (22¡ã C) during the summer months, making it an ideal year-round destination.
