      New York Travel Guide

As a traveler, visiting New York can be quite daunting if you haven’t been before. Our New York travel guide will solve that problem for you, detailing everything you need to know before heading out on your big adventure.

The state of New York encompasses more than just New York City, although that is the most popular destination in the state. We’ll cover all bases for you based on our extensive experience in the area.

The most popular mode of transport in the state of New York is by train. You can make use of the Metro-North trains to get around the in-lying areas of the state.?

If you’re looking to travel further up North, make use of Amtrak. This train gets you to further, outlying areas such as Albany, Rochester, and Niagara Falls. Be sure to book a while in advance to secure lower ticket prices!

Another option is taking a bus when in the cities. We found this to be the more budget-friendly option. Greyhound buses have around 60 stops around the state, servicing most major tourist attractions.

      Important Things To Know

      Currency

      National Languages

The most commonly used language in New York is English.

      Time Zone

New York switches between Eastern Standard Time (EST) and Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), thanks to their use of Daylight Savings Time.?

EST is used roughly between November and March each year, and EDT is used for the rest of the year. There’s only an hour difference between the two. It allows for darkness to fall at a later time, so there are more daylight hours in your day.

      Climate and Weather

The state of New York has a humid continental climate. This means there’s a large difference between the Summer and Winter temperatures.?

New York is generally quite warm and sunny during the summer months between May and October. Winters are quite cold with snow being common in the interior areas of the state.?

Precipitation is moderate and falls year-round, so you can expect some rain during both the summer and winter months.
