Hong Kong is the undisputed champ of world cities. It's an ideal hub for globetrotters, a strategic spot for business travelers.
But it has another lesser-known advantage: Hong Kong is an amazing outdoor destination.
In fact, 40 percent of Hong Kong's land is designated to the great outdoors. There are 24 country parks in and around the city, and nature-lovers are spoiled for choice when it comes to outdoor pursuits.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is highlighting the city as a natural destination with its new Great Outdoors campaign and the new Guide to Hiking & Cycling in Hong Kong.
"Hong Kong's unexpected green element is a perfect complement to its well-known epicurean pedigree. We've developed our new Great Outdoors program to make it as convenient and rewarding for our guests as possible," said HKTB US director Bill Flora.
"A day spent in the great outdoors all but guarantees that one returns to the city ready to fully immerse themselves in Hong Kong's culinary haven."
The guide divides trails into three categories: Hiking in Heritage, Picture-Perfect Vistas and Geographical Wonders.
Hiking in Heritage showcases the city's urban hiking trails in and around Hong Kong. The hikes highlight the region's and its colonial past as well as its lush greenery.
Picture-Perfect Vistas will be a win for photo buffs. The Magnificent Landscapes trail, for example, takes hikers to the 869-meters-high Sunset Peak. Couples will love the trail to Silvermine Bay Beach.
Hong Kong has a surprising number of natural wonders in such as small space. The New Territories are home to intriguing geological formations, and visitors will want to check out the UNESCO Global Geopark that includes the San Kung Volcanic Rock Region and the Sedimentary Rock Region.
Once visitors have discovered Hong Kong's natural side, there are a number of other lesser-known attractions to take in, as well-which is why this world city is at the top of its game when it comes to welcoming the global traveler.
