Holland America Line announced that more than half of its
fleet has been updated with SpaceX’s Starlink internet service.
The cruise line first installed the next-generation
technology on its Koningsdam ship, followed by Oosterdam, Volendam, Westerdam,
Zaandam and Zuiderdam. Officials revealed Starlink would be installed on Holland
America Line’s remaining five ships by mid-December.
Since being outfitted with the high-speed internet, the cruise
line’s vessels have sailed through Alaska, the Mediterranean and Canada with
positive guest and team member feedback on the performance of the Wi-Fi.
“Our goal is to continue keeping all guests connected to the
internet to share their memorable experiences, and to allow our team members to
stay in touch with their loved ones back home,” Holland America Line Vice
President Kathleen Erickson said.
“It’s important we stay up to date with evolving technology
to ensure the best experience for everyone stepping foot on our ships,” Erickson
continued.?
Last month, Cunard
announced it would implement a new Wi-Fi service in tandem with a fleetwide
rollout of Starlink. The service is due to be available in both public spaces
and staterooms on Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth by the end
of 2023.
In addition, Holland America Line finalized the installation
of shore
power capabilities on its entire 11-ship fleet in September. The process of
converting its vessels to shore power started in 2006 on its four Vista Class
vessels.
