Mexican officials provided an update this week, saying the
massive Maya Train construction project was still scheduled to debut to the
public in December.
According to the Riviera
Maya News, Tren Maya General Director Oscar David Lozano Aguila said the railway
construction was progressing ¡°as planned¡± and that the Peninsula portion of the
mega project would be inaugurated ¡°without setbacks.¡±
Lozano Aguila provided a short update, saying that Section 5
north from Cancun to Playa del Carmen registers a physical progress of 43.2
percent, while progress on Section 6 from Tulum to Chetumal was reported at 44.1
percent.
As for Section 7, the Chetumal to Escarcega run was at 44.1
percent completion.?
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador also revealed
that progress is being made on purchasing and delivering the freight trains and
passenger convoys for Tren Maya.?
¡°In the case of the Maya Train, all passenger trains, even
the purchase of cargo trains is about to be put out to tender, but the
passenger trains are all already contracted with Alstom, who is making all the
trains in Ciudad Sahagun, in Hidalgo,¡± President Lopez Obrador said.
Earlier this year, Tulum Mayor Diego Castanon announced the
region¡¯s archaeological zone received a significant investment from the Mexican
government for infrastructural
improvements to be made and maintained at the site.
