In an effort to turn its travel business around, low-cost no-frills
carrier, Spirit
Airlines has announced new premium offerings as part of its transformation
to deliver a friendlier, more comfortable and cost-effective travel experience
for its passengers.
According to an article in Reuters, the airline has been
losing money despite booming travel and its shares have fallen 81 percent in
2024 (though up five percent in today¡¯s mid-day trading). Spirit¡¯s new
offerings come months after rival Frontier
Airlines launched a similar product.
"We're unveiling a new era in Spirit's history and
taking low-fare travel to new heights with enhanced options that are unlike
anything we've offered before," said Ted Christie, Spirit's President and
Chief Executive Officer. "We listened to our Guests and are excited to
deliver what they want: choices for an elevated experience that are affordable
and provide unparalleled value."
The Florida-based airline¡¯s new travel options include:
- Go Big delivers the best value and includes a
Big Front Seat, snacks and drinks, including alcoholic beverages, one carry-on
bag, one checked bag, priority check-in and boarding along with streaming
access through the fastest Wi-Fi of any U.S.-based airline. The Big Front Seat
features enhanced comfort with wider seats, extra legroom, additional seat
cushioning and no middle seat. Go Big will be available to book and experience
starting August 16, 2024, with snacks and drinks included and priority check-in
launching on August 27.
- Go Comfy¡¯s brand-new seating option offers
increased comfort and space with a guaranteed blocked middle seat, one carry-on
bag, one checked bag, priority boarding, a snack and a non-alcoholic beverage. The
Go Comfy option will be available to book starting August 16, 2024, with
service beginning August 27.
- Go Savvy provides travelers the choice of either
one carry-on bag or one checked bag and standard seat selection during booking.
This option will also be available for booking and experience on August 16.
- Go offers the greatest affordability for those
who want to keep it simple with the flexibility to purchase any of the
following options: checked bags, standard seat selection, Wi-Fi, and snacks and
beverages. Go will be also available to book and experience beginning August
16.
A newly-designed boarding process
starting August 27 will include five groups to reduce boarding time and enhance
operational performance. Priority boarding will be available for guests who
choose the Go Big and Go Comfy options, Free Spirit Gold and Silver members,
Free Spirit World Elite Mastercard holders and active-duty U.S. service members
and their spouses and children when traveling with the service member.
