This summer, Lufthansa Group Airlines, including Lufthansa, SWISS, Brussels Airlines and Austrian Airlines, will introduce a new fare structure on North American routes.
"Light" Fares will be a basic, low-cost rate for cost-conscious passengers. It is the least expensive option and is ideal for passengers who don't need ticket flexibility and will be traveling only with carry-on bags.
For a fee, passengers can add one piece of luggage and request a seat reservation on an individual basis. Meals and drinks will continue to be served to passengers onboard, free-of-charge.
Lufthansa began testing these fares on flights from North America to Scandinavia in October of last year. Right now, passengers can purchase a basic rate with carry-on luggage for flights between Sweden, Denmark, Norway and select North American destinations.
Light Fares have been available for destinations within Europe since 2015. All fares include standard features onboard such as carry-on luggage weighing up to 17 pounds, snacks and drinks onboard the plane, fixed seat assignment at check-in and bonus and status miles.
The new Light Fare will be available in North America starting this summer.
