Why Dubai is One of the World's Most Instagrammable Destinations

      Dubai

      1/21
Based solely on the number of geotags, New York City is the most Instagrammed city in the world. But that doesn't mean it's the most Insta-worthy-it might just mean it receives 63 million tourists a year. For the most Insta-worthy city, look to the Las Vegas of the Middle East. Better known as Dubai, it boasts a dizzyingly array of photo opportunities. You might be an influencer feeling the pressure to post something warranting thousands of likes, or perhaps you're a traveler looking to simply share unbelievable photos to your handful of followers-mostly friends and family-back home. Regardless of how many likes you're after, here are 20 pictures to take should you be lucky enough to land in the most Insta-worthy city on earth.

      Wings of Mexico

      2/21
These striking one-size-fits-all bronze wings are the work of Mexican artist Jorge Mar¨ªn. They symbolize transcendence and invite passersby to see what they'd look like in another realm. The sculpture is strategically positioned in Burj Plaza with the Burj Khalifa towering in the background.

      Burj Khalifa

      3/21
The only way to capture all 200+ stories of the Burj Khalifa on camera is to shoot it from a distance. But the good thing about being the world's tallest building is you can be seen from anywhere in the city. Of course, you can also take photos from the 360-degree observation decks on floors 124 and 125. The Burj Khalifa has 3.6 million tags on Instagram. The Empire State building has 2.6 million.

      Burj Al Arab

      4/21
You don't have to step foot inside the world's only 7-star hotel to capture the essence of the Burj Al Arab. It's unique sail-like shape stands out in a skyline of mostly straight lines. For a neat perspective, rent your own jet ski-style boat and shoot it from the water.

      Food

      5/21
Dubai is home to so many fine dining establishments it's long overdue for a Michelin guide to the city. It also boasts so many food trucks it has dedicated food truck parks. In terms of incredible photos, even Edible Arrangements can't top the elaborately carved fruit creations at Four Seasons Dubai at Jumeriah Beach. If cocoa is more your style, check out the chocolate masterpieces made by Four Seasons Dubai DIFC.

      Souks

      6/21
Like most markets, Arab markets are teeming with more photo ops than an iPhone can store. The main difference between markets elsewhere and Dubai's specialized souks is the abundance of colorful spices and gold. There is even a designated gold market boasting the world's largest gold ring.

      The Dubai Frame

      7/21
When the world's largest picture frame was being built, even longtime Dubai residents were in disbelief. Today, it's a landmark much like the Statue of Liberty or Eiffel Tower (and it lights up at night like them too). Take your photo from afar, or even from the top. An elevator inside the frame ascends to the 305-foot-long viewing bridge, part of which even has a glass floor.

      The Desert

      8/21
Just a short drive out of the seafront city is a sea of sand brimming with natural beauty. To climb the dunes and get the best vantage point, jump in an open-roof vintage Land Rover with a tour company like Platinum Heritage. The most picturesque tours are the sunrise hot air balloon desert safari and the nighttime astronomy safari.

      Beaches

      9/21
Of course, you don't even have to leave Dubai to find sand. There are miles of white-sand beaches fronting the Arabian Gulf (or the Persian Gulf depending on who you ask). And yes, you can wear bikinis and bathing suits in Dubai.

      Fast Cars

      10/21
Besides a NASCAR race, there might be no better place than Dubai to see fast cars.

After all, where else does the police fleet include Ferraris and Lamborghinis? If you want a photo from behind the wheel, visit the Dubai Autodrome.

      Luxury

      11/21
It's not uncommon for blogs to publish lists of luxurious things you can only see in Dubai. That's because the "City of Gold" is synonymous with living the high (literally) life. From the ATM in the airport that dispenses gold bars to the 23-carat edible gold cupcake you can find in Dubai Mall, there is no shortage of luxe looks for your 'gram.

      La Perle by Dragone

      12/21
Even if you've seen every Cirque du Soleil show on opening night, you'll be completely blown away by this over-the-top show created by Franco Dragone. Imagine motorcycles zooming around in cages suspended in the air and a custom-built stage with a pool deep enough to accommodate acrobats diving from 114 feet above. The performers' bodies are truly works of art.

      The Locals

      13/21
In a city where expats comprise about 80 percent of the population, the native Emiratis in their flowing white (for men) and black (for women) traditional garments might be the most photogenic. Just don't take a photo of a lone woman unless you have permission. Some guides even recommend asking her husband or father first as well.

      The Skyline

      14/21
Dubai's impressive and dynamic skyline changes almost daily. At one time it was even reported that 25 percent of the world's cranes were deployed in the city. Regardless of the season you visit, you'll see construction crews building taller and more daring skyscrapers.

      Henna

      15/21
Since Islam bans tattoos, you won't see many in Dubai. Instead, you'll see elaborate henna art. This temporary plant-based tattoo is so popular that before weddings, brides host henna parties where all the ladies get their henna done. Many salons in Dubai offer henna to walk-ins.

      Malls

      16/21
It's impossible to be bored in Dubai, even on the rare rainy day. That's because within 10 miles you have the world's largest mall and the world's first mall to offer indoor skiing. Whether you're posting photos of your huge haul or the things you see while people-watching, your followers won't be disappointed

      Falconry

      17/21
You've got to be quick to capture the world's fastest animal on camera. In Dubai, falcons are so revered they're pictured on the currency. While it might be hard to find a Bedouin willing to let you go hunting with him and his falcon, most desert safaris include falconry demonstrations.

      Animals

      18/21
Bird, mammal, reptile or even insect, it takes a special breed to survive the harsh desert in Dubai's backyard. Still, on a desert safari you can expect to see plenty of camels, the Arabian oryx and if you're really lucky, a caracal. Of course, you can also maybe spot an exotic cat in the city where the elite often keep them as pets. Oh-and Dubai is home to the world's largest aquarium and underwater zoo.

      Art

      19/21
Sometimes seeing art is waiting in the ticket line at the Louvre to stand on your tiptoes to peer over the crowd in front of the Mona Lisa. And sometimes it's just strolling down a quiet street lined with eclectic studios and galleries. That's the case at Dubai's trendy and art-forward Aserkal Avenue.

      Adventure

      20/21
You can't quite capture the adrenaline rush on camera, but you can get some pretty neat shots exploring Dubai's adventurous side. Take a ride on the world's longest urban zipline, race camels with the pros, try skydiving by the beach, ski in the Mall of the Emirates or go dune bashing in the desert. You can even have dinner (or lunch) in the sky-deemed one of the world's top 10 unique dining experiences.

      Dubai Miracle Garden

      21/21
Greenery isn't the first thing that comes to mind when most people think of the Middle East. But despite only getting 1.5 inches of rain in its wettest month, Dubai boasts the world's largest natural flower garden. Think the Rose Bowl Parade on steroids.
