The Mexican Caribbean Shares Good News

      1/6
Let's face it: it's been a tough year and a half. That's why it's so exciting to learn about a beloved destination doing well. The Mexican Caribbean, which comprises the resort areas of Riviera Maya, Cancun, Cozumel, Tulum and more has some great news to report about the state of its tourism industry.

      Occupancy Rate

      2/6
The region's occupancy rate has reached 80 percent of its pre-pandemic levels, with the majority of those staying at resorts and hotels being both domestic and American travelers. Visitors to Quintana Roo have surpassed pre-pandemic levels.

      Cruising

      3/6
After fifteen months without any cruise tourists, Cozumel and Puerta Maya in Mahahual have welcomed their first cruise tourists back, operating under health and safety protocols. Royal Caribbean, MSC and Norwegian Cruise Line are the first lines to visit the island.

      Flight Growth

      4/6
Back in July, airlines carried a record number of passengers to destinations throughout Mexico, totaling 2.3 million travelers. Cozumel, especially, has grown in interest the past year and a half, offering 16 direct flights to national and international destinations.

      Campaigns

      5/6
The Quintana Roo Tourism Board has hosted events and publicized campaigns that help inform travelers about the region as a safe destination for travel.

      Sustainability

      6/6
Quintana Roo is committing to sustainability efforts, partnering with 31 organizations and companies, along with the Secretary of Ecology and the Environment, focusing on environmental education. The region is also working to brand itself as an eco-friendly destination.
