In addition to the metals of native ores in the walls, the cave holds a lot of history. It played a significant role in the Underground Railroad during the period of slavery. In 1875, the loot from an Ohio bank robbery was stashed in the cave. This later served as inspiration for the 1903 silent film The Great Train Robbery, a film considered a silent classic today and the precursor to today's thrillers.
