      Martinique Travel Guide

The French Caribbean Island of Martinique is one of the most beautiful and underrated vacation destinations in the world. The volcanic island features breathtaking mountain-top views, picturesque towns, and diverse cultures. Add in the amazing food and friendly people, and you¡¯ve got yourself a hot spot for the holidays.?

Before you visit the ¡°Pearl of the Antilles¡±, use this Martinique travel guide to navigate this stretch of paradise.?

There are a few ways to get around Martinique:?

      • Bus: Most buses travel fixed routes within the capital city of Fort De-France. If you want to travel beyond the city, you can hire a TC bus, which has flexible routes for a bigger fee.?
      • Ferry: You¡¯ll find big and small ferry options between Fort De-France and Pointe du Bout, as well as other popular resorts. This is the cheapest travel option but can be difficult to navigate.?
      • Taxi: Metered taxis are also an easy option for travel. By law, taxis need to have a working meter and fair prices, so make sure to use a trusted taxi service with good reviews.?
      • Car: We¡¯d recommend renting a cat when visiting Martinique. It¡¯s the easiest way to get around and with US-owned car rental companies, you can rely on fair prices. To do this, you will need to get an international driver's license.?

Even with its scenic views, tropical beaches, and picturesque towns, Martinique remains one of the most underrated travel destinations. Fortunately, there is a plethora of fun activities and awesome views to entice new travelers to visit. To help you explore some of the best attractions, we created a list of the best things to do in Martinique.

      Important Things To Know

      Currency

Martinique is a French region and uses euros on the island. The symbol for the euro is €.?

      It is available in banknotes and coins. The banknote denominations are €5, €10, €20, €50, €100, €200, and €500. And the coins are 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, €1, and €2.?

      National Languages

The national language of Martinique is French but you¡¯ll also hear a lot of locals speaking Cr¨¦ole.?

Unfortunately, not a lot of people speak English. So you may find it a little difficult outside of major tourist destinations to communicate with locals and transport companies.?

We recommend having a phrase book on hand or getting a translation app to help navigate the region.?

      Climate And Weather

Located in the Caribbean sea, north of Trinidad, the island of Martinique experiences hot and humid weather. It¡¯s so hot year-round that the country doesn¡¯t distinguish between winter and summer. For example, there is barely a 10¡ãF difference between the average hottest and coldest day of the year.?

So, what does change about the weather? The clouds. From April to November, Martinique is covered in clouds. It¡¯s also during this time - May to December - that Martinique experiences its longest and wettest season.?

We¡¯d recommend preparing a big supply of SPF for sun protection. It¡¯s also important to have water on hand to stay hydrated, especially if you¡¯re not used to the heat.?
